Yusuf Ali (English) And remember ye said: "O Moses! we cannot endure one kind of food (always); so beseech thy Lord for us to produce for us of what the earth groweth, -its potherbs, and cucumbers, Its garlic, lentils, and onions." He said: "Will ye exchange the better for the worse? Go ye down to any town(74), and ye shall find what ye want!" They were covered with humiliation(75) and misery; they drew on themselves the wrath of Allah. This because they went on rejecting the Signs of Allah and slaying His Messengers without just cause. This because they rebelled and went on transgressing.*
2 Al-Baqarah Verse 74 (2:74:32) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Thenceforth were your hearts hardened: They became like a rock and even worse in hardness. For among rocks there are some from which rivers gush forth; others there are which when split asunder send forth water; and others which sink for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unmindful of what ye do(82).*
3 Al-Baqarah Verse 102 (2:102:51) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) They followed what the evil ones(103) gave out (falsely) against the power of Solomon: the blasphemers Were, not Solomon, but the evil ones, teaching men Magic, and such things as came down at babylon to the angels Harut and Marut(104). But neither of these taught anyone (Such things) without saying: "We are only for trial; so do not blaspheme." They learned from them(105) the means to sow discord between man and wife. But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah.s permission. And they learned what harmed them, not what profited them. And they knew that the buyers of (magic) would have no share in the happiness of the Hereafter. And vile was the price for which they did sell their souls, if they but knew!*
4 Al-Baqarah Verse 110 (2:110:12) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) And be steadfast in prayer and regular in charity: And whatever good ye send forth for your souls(113) before you, ye shall find it with Allah. for Allah sees Well all that ye do.*
5 Al-Baqarah Verse 115 (2:115:8) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) To Allah belong the east and the West: Whithersoever ye turn, there is Allah's countenance(118). For Allah is all-Embracing, all- Knowing.*
6 Al-Baqarah Verse 138 (2:138:2) اللّٰهِۚ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) (Our religion is) the Colour of Allah(137): And who can baptize better than Allah. And it is He Whom we worship.*
7 Al-Baqarah Verse 140 (2:140:25) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Or(138) do ye say that Abraham, Isma´il Isaac, Jacob and the Tribes were Jews or Christians? Say: Do ye know better than Allah. Ah! who is more unjust than those who conceal the testimony they have from Allah. but Allah is not unmindful of what ye do!*
8 Al-Baqarah Verse 158 (2:158:6) اللّٰهِۚ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Behold! Safa and Marwa are among the Symbols(160) of Allah. So if those who visit the House(161) in the Season or at other times, should compass them round, it is no sin in them. And if any one obeyeth his own impulse to good(162),- be sure that Allah is He Who recogniseth and knoweth.*
9 Al-Baqarah Verse 165 (2:165:11) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Yet there are men who take (for worship) others besides Allah, as equal (with Allah.: They love them as they should love Allah. But those of Faith are overflowing in their love for Allah. If only the unrighteous could see, behold, they would see the penalty: that to Allah belongs all power, and Allah will strongly enforce the Punishment(167).*
10 Al-Baqarah Verse 165 (2:165:16) لِلّٰهِۜ لله li(A)llâh(i) for Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Yet there are men who take (for worship) others besides Allah, as equal (with Allah.: They love them as they should love Allah. 11 Al-Baqarah Verse 173 (2:173:12) اللّٰهِۚ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) He hath only forbidden you dead meat(173), and blood, and the flesh of swine, and that on which any other name hath been invoked besides that of Allah(174). But if one is forced by necessity, without wilful disobedience, nor transgressing due limits,- then is he guiltless. For Allah is Oft-forgiving Most Merciful.*
12 Al-Baqarah Verse 193 (2:193:8) لِلّٰهِۜ لله li(A)llâh(i) for Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) And fight them on until there is no more Tumult or oppression, and there prevail justice and faith in Allah(207). but if they cease(208), Let there be no hostility except to those who practise oppression.*
13 Al-Baqarah Verse 196 (2:196:4) لِلّٰهِۜ لله li(A)llâh(i) for Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) And complete the Hajj or Umrah(212) in the service of Allah. But if ye are prevented (From completing it), send an offering for sacrifice, such as ye may find, and do not shave your heads until the offering reaches the place of sacrifice. And if any of you is ill(213), or has an ailment in his scalp, (Necessitating shaving), (He should) in compensation either fast, or feed the poor, or offer sacrifice; and when ye are in peaceful conditions (again)(214), if any one wishes to continue the ´Umrah on to the Hajj, He must make an offering, such as he can afford, but if he cannot afford it, He should fast three days during the Hajj and seven days on his return, Making ten days in all. This is for those whose household is not in (the precincts(215) of) the Sacred Mosque. And fear Allah, and know that Allah Is strict in punishment(216).*
14 Al-Baqarah Verse 207 (2:207:8) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) And there is the type of man who gives his life to earn the pleasure of Allah. And Allah is full of kindness to (His) devotees(229).*
15 Al-Baqarah Verse 214 (2:214:25) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah (come) اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Or do ye think that ye shall enter the Garden (of bliss) without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? they encountered suffering and adversity, and were so shaken in spirit that even the Messenger and those of faith who were with him cried: "When (will come) the help of Allah." Ah! Verily, the help of Allah is (always) near!
16 Al-Baqarah Verse 217 (2:217:24) اللّٰهِۚ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) They ask thee concerning fighting in the Prohibited Month(237). Say: "Fighting therein is a grave (offence); but graver is it in the sight of Allah to prevent access to the path of Allah, to deny Him, to prevent access to the Sacred Mosque, and drive out its members(238)." Tumult and oppression(239) are worse than slaughter. Nor will they cease fighting you until they turn you back from your faith if they can. And if any of you Turn back from their faith and die in unbelief, their works will bear no fruit in this life and in the Hereafter; they will be companions of the Fire and will abide therein.*
17 Al-Baqarah Verse 218 (2:218:13) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Those who believed and those who suffered exile and fought (and strove and struggled) in the path of Allah,- they have the hope of the Mercy of Allah. And Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
18 Al-Baqarah Verse 229 (2:229:22) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) A divorce is only(256) permissible twice: after that, the parties should either hold Together on equitable terms, or separate with kindness.(257) It is not lawful for you, (Men), to take back any of your gifts (from your wives), except when both parties fear that they would be unable to keep the limits ordained by Allah.(258) If ye (judges) do indeed fear that they would be unable to keep the limits ordained by Allah, there is no blame on either of them if she give something for her freedom. These are the limits ordained by Allah. so do not transgress them if any do transgress the limits ordained by Allah, such persons wrong (Themselves as well as others).(259)*
19 Al-Baqarah Verse 230 (2:230:24) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) So if a husband divorces his wife (irrevocably)(260), he cannot, after that, remarry her until after she has married another husband and he has divorced her. In that case there is no blame on either of them if they reunite, provided they feel that they can keep the limits ordained by Allah. Such are the limits ordained by Allah, which He makes plain to those who understand.*
20 Al-Baqarah Verse 246 (2:246:21) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Hast thou not Turned thy vision to the Chiefs of the Children of Israel after (the time of) Moses(277)? they said to a prophet (278)(That was) among them: "Appoint for us a king, that we May fight in the cause of Allah." He said: "Is it not possible(279), if ye were commanded to fight, that that ye will not fight?" They said: "How could we refuse to fight in the cause of Allah, seeing that we were turned out of our homes and our families?" but when they were commanded to fight, they turned back, except a small band among them. But Allah Has full knowledge of those who do wrong.*
21 Al-Baqarah Verse 249 (2:249:57) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) When Talut set forth with the armies, he said(284): "(Allah) will test you at the stream: if any drinks of its water, He goes not with my army: Only those who taste not of it go with me: A mere sip out of the hand is excused." but they all drank of it, except a few. When they crossed the river,- He and the faithful ones with him,they said: "This day(285) We cannot cope with Goliath and his forces." but those who were convinced that they must meet Allah, said: "How oft, by Allah.s will, Hath a small force vanquished a big one? Allah is with those who steadfastly persevere."*
22 Al-Baqarah Verse 272 (2:272:19) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) It is not required of thee (O Messenger., to set them on the right path(320), but Allah sets on the right path whom He pleaseth. Whatever of good ye give benefits your own souls, and ye shall only do so seeking the "Face(321)" of Allah. Whatever good ye give, shall be rendered back to you, and ye shall not Be dealt with unjustly.*
23 Al-Baqarah Verse 275 (2:275:37) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Those who devour usury(324) will not stand except as stand one whom the Evil one by his touch Hath driven to madness(325). That is because they say: "Trade is like usury(326)," but Allah hath permitted trade and forbidden usury. Those who after receiving direction from their Lord, desist, shall be pardoned for the past; their case is for Allah (to judge); but those who repeat (The offence) are companions of the Fire: They will abide therein (for ever).*
24 Al-Baqarah Verse 281 (2:281:6) اللّٰهِ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) And fear the Day when ye shall be brought back to Allah. Then shall every soul be paid what it earned, and none shall be dealt with unjustly.
25 Ali 'Imran Verse 15 (3:15:21) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Say: Shall I give you glad tidings of things Far better than those? For the righteous are Gardens in nearness to their Lord, with rivers flowing beneath; therein is their eternal home; with companions pure (and holy)(355); and the good pleasure of Allah. For in Allah.s sight are (all) His servants,-*
26 Ali 'Imran Verse 37 (3:37:28) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Right graciously did her Lord accept her: He made her grow in purity and beauty: To the care of Zakariya was she assigned. Every time that he entered (Her) chamber to see her, He found her supplied with sustenance. He said: "O Mary! Whence (comes) this to you?" She said: "From Allah. for Allah Provides sustenance to whom He pleases without measure(379)."*
27 Ali 'Imran Verse 49 (3:49:23) اللّٰهِۚ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) "And (appoint him) a messenger to the Children of Israel, (with this message): "´I have come to you, with a Sign from your Lord, in that I make for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allah's leave(390): And I heal those born blind, and the lepers, and I quicken the dead, by Allah.s leave; and I declare to you what ye eat, and what ye store(391) in your houses. Surely therein is a Sign for you if ye did believe;*
28 Ali 'Imran Verse 49 (3:49:30) اللّٰهِۚ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) "And (appoint him) a messenger to the Children of Israel, (with this message): "´I have come to you, with a Sign from your Lord, in that I make for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allah's leave(390): And I heal those born blind, and the lepers, and I quicken the dead, by Allah.s leave; and I declare to you what ye eat, and what ye store(391) in your houses. 29 Ali 'Imran Verse 52 (3:52:10) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) When Jesus found Unbelief on their part He said: "Who will be My helpers to (the work of) Allah." Said the disciples: "We are Allah.s helpers: We believe in Allah, and do thou bear witness that we are Muslims(392).*
30 Ali 'Imran Verse 64 (3:64:26) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Say: "O People of the Book! come to common terms as between us and you: That we worship none but Allah. that we associate no partners with him; that we erect not, from among ourselves, Lords and patrons other than Allah(402)." If then they turn back, say ye: "Bear witness that we (at least) are Muslims (bowing to Allah.s Will).*
31 Ali 'Imran Verse 110 (3:110:12) بِاللّٰهِۜ بالله bi(A)llâh(i) in Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Ye are the best of peoples, evolved for mankind, enjoining what is right, forbidding what is wrong, and believing in Allah.(434) If only the People of the Book had faith, it were best for them: among them are some who have faith, but most of them are perverted transgressors.*
32 Ali 'Imran Verse 154 (3:154:33) لِلّٰهِۜ لله li(A)llâh(i) (is) for Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) After (the excitement) of the distress, He sent down calm on a band of you overcome with slumber,(465) while another band was stirred to anxiety by their own feelings, Moved by wrong suspicions of Allah.suspicions due to ignorance. They said: "What affair is this of ours?"(466) Say thou: "Indeed, this affair is wholly Allah.s." They hide in their minds what they dare not reveal to thee. They say (to themselves): "If we had had anything to do with this affair, We should not have been in the slaughter here." Say: "Even if you had remained in your homes, those for whom death was decreed would certainly have gone forth to the place of their death"; but (all this was)(467) that Allah might test what is in your breasts and purge what is in your hearts. For Allah knoweth well the secrets of your hearts.*
33 Ali 'Imran Verse 159 (3:159:26) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) It is part of the Mercy of Allah that thou dost deal gently with them(471) Wert thou severe or harshhearted, they would have broken away from about thee: so pass over (Their faults), and ask for ((Allah)´s) forgiveness for them; and consult them in affairs (of moment). Then, when thou hast Taken a decision put thy trust in Allah. For Allah loves those who put their trust (in Him).*
34 Ali 'Imran Verse 163 (3:163:4) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) They are in varying gardens in the sight of Allah, and Allah sees well all that they do.
35 Ali 'Imran Verse 174 (3:174:11) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) And they returned with Grace and bounty from Allah. no harm ever touched them: For they followed the good pleasure of Allah. And Allah is the Lord of bounties unbounded.
36 Ali 'Imran Verse 195 (3:195:39) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) And their Lord hath accepted of them, and answered them: "Never will I suffer to be lost the work of any of you, be he male or female: Ye are members, one of another:(500) Those who have left their homes, or been driven out therefrom, or suffered harm in My Cause, or fought or been slain,- verily, I will blot out from them their iniquities, and admit them into Gardens with rivers flowing beneath;- A reward from the Presence(501) of Allah, and from His presence is the best of rewards."*
37 Ali 'Imran Verse 198 (3:198:16) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) On the other hand, for those who fear their Lord, are Gardens, with rivers flowing beneath; therein are they to dwell (for ever),- a gift from the presence of Allah. and that which is in the presence of Allah is the best (bliss) for the righteous.
38 An-Nisa Verse 11 (4:11:66) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Allah (thus) directs you as regards your Children´s(516) (Inheritance): to the male, a portion equal to that of two females: if only daughters, two or more,(517) their share is two-thirds of the inheritance; if only one, her share is a half. For parents, a sixth share of the inheritance to each, if the deceased left children; if no children, and the parents are the (only) heirs, the mother has a third; if the deceased Left brothers (or sisters) the mother has a sixth. (The distribution in all cases (´s) after the payment of legacies and debts. Ye know not whether your parents or your children are nearest to you in benefit. These are settled portions ordained(518) by Allah. and Allah is All-knowing, All-wise.*
39 An-Nisa Verse 12 (4:12:85) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) In what your wives leave, your share is a half, if they leave no child; but if they leave a child, ye get a fourth; after payment of legacies and debts. In what ye leave, their share is a fourth,(519) if ye leave no child; but if ye leave a child, they get an eighth; after payment of legacies and debts. If the man or woman whose inheritance is in question, has left neither ascendants nor descendants,(520) but has left a brother(521) or a sister, each one of the two gets a sixth; but if more than two, they share in a third; after payment of legacies and debts; so that no loss(522) is caused (to any one). Thus is it ordained by Allah. and Allah is All-knowing, Most Forbearing.*
40 An-Nisa Verse 13 (4:13:3) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Those are limits set by Allah. those who obey Allah and His Messenger will be admitted to Gardens with rivers flowing beneath, to abide therein (for ever) and that will be the supreme achievement.(522-A)*
41 An-Nisa Verse 64 (4:64:8) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) We sent not a messenger, but to be obeyed, in accordance with the will of Allah. If they had only, when they were unjust to themselves, come unto thee and asked Allah.s forgiveness, and the Messenger had asked forgiveness for them, they would have found Allah indeed Oft-returning, Most Merciful.
42 An-Nisa Verse 70 (4:70:4) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Such is the bounty from Allah. And sufficient is it that Allah knoweth all.(587)*
43 An-Nisa Verse 76 (4:76:6) اللّٰهِۚ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Those who believe fight in the cause of Allah, and those who reject Faith Fight in the cause of Evil: So fight ye against the Friends(594) of Satan: feeble indeed is the cunning of Satan.*
44 An-Nisa Verse 78 (4:78:18) اللّٰهِۚ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) "Wherever ye are, death will find you out, even if ye are in towers built up strong and high!" If some good befalls them, they say, "This is from Allah.; but if evil, they say, "This is from thee" (O Prophet).(597) Say: "All things are from Allah." But what hath come to these people, that they fail to understand a single fact?*
45 An-Nisa Verse 78 (4:78:30) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) "Wherever ye are, death will find you out, even if ye are in towers built up strong and high!" If some good befalls them, they say, "This is from Allah.; but if evil, they say, "This is from thee" (O Prophet).(597) Say: "All things are from Allah." But what hath come to these people, that they fail to understand a single fact?*
46 An-Nisa Verse 79 (4:79:6) اللّٰهِۘ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Whatever good, (O man!) happens to thee, is from Allah. but whatever evil happens to thee, is from thy (own) soul. and We have sent thee as a Messenger(598) to (instruct) mankind. And enough is Allah for a witness.*
47 An-Nisa Verse 81 (4:81:21) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) They have "Obedience" on their lips; but when they leave thee, a section of them Meditate all night on things very different from what thou tellest them. But Allah records their nightly (plots): So keep clear of them, and put thy trust in Allah, and enough is Allah as a disposer of affairs.(600)*
48 An-Nisa Verse 89 (4:89:16) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) (of) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) They but wish that ye should reject Faith, as they do, and thus be on the same footing (as they): But take not friends from their ranks until they flee(607) in the way of Allah (From what is forbidden). But if they turn renegades, seize them and slay them wherever ye find them; and (in any case) take no friends or helpers from their ranks;-*
49 An-Nisa Verse 92 (4:92:56) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) Never should a believer kill a believer; but (If it so happens) by mistake,(611) (Compensation is due): If one (so) kills a believer, it is ordained that he should free a believing slave, and pay compensation to the deceased´s family, unless they remit it freely. If the deceased belonged to a people at war with you, and he was a believer, the freeing of a believing slave (Is enough). If he belonged to a people with whom ye have treaty of Mutual alliance, compensation should be paid to his family, and a believing slave be freed. For those who find this beyond their means, (is prescribed) a fast for two months running: by way of repentance to Allah. for Allah hath all knowledge and all wisdom.*
50 An-Nisa Verse 100 (4:100:27) اللّٰهِۜ الله (A)llâh(i) Allah اللَّهُ
Yusuf Ali (English) He who forsakes his home in the cause of Allah, finds in the earth Many a refuge, wide and spacious: Should he die as a refugee from home for Allah and His Messenger, His reward becomes due and sure with Allah. And Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
