Yusuf Ali (English) Behold! in the creation of the heavens and the earth; in the alternation of the night and the day; in the sailing of the ships through the ocean for the profit of mankind; in the rain which Allah Sends down from the skies, and the life which He gives therewith to an earth that is dead; in the beasts of all kinds that He scatters through the earth; in the change of the winds, and the clouds which they Trail like their slaves between the sky and the earth;- (Here) indeed are Signs for a people that are wise.

Yusuf Ali (English) (Their doom is) because Allah sent down the Book in truth but those who seek causes of dispute in the Book are in a schism(176) Far (from the purpose).*

Yusuf Ali (English) Those messengers We endowed with gifts, some above others(289): To one of them Allah spoke(290); others He raised to degrees (of honour)(291); to Jesus the son of Mary We gave clear (Signs)(292), and strengthened him with the holy spirit(292-A). If Allah had so willed, succeeding generations would not have fought among each other, after clear (Signs) had come to them, but they (chose) to wrangle, some believing and others rejecting. If Allah had so willed, they would not have fought each other; but Allah Fulfilleth His plan(293).*

Yusuf Ali (English) Allah. There is no god but He,-the Living, the Selfsubsisting, Eternal(296). No slumber can seize Him nor sleep. His are all things in the heavens and on earth. Who is there can intercede in His presence except as He permitteth? He knoweth what (appeareth to His creatures as) before or after or behind them(297). Nor shall they compass aught of His knowledge except as He willeth. His Throne doth extend(298) over the heavens and the earth, and He feeleth no fatigue in guarding and preserving them(299) for He is the Most High, the Supreme (in glory).*

Yusuf Ali (English) To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it, and guarding it(759) in safety: so judge between them by what Allah hath revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging from the Truth that hath come to thee. To each among you have we prescribed a law and an open way.(760) If Allah had so willed, He would have made you(761) a single people, but (His plan is) to test you in what He hath given you: so strive as in a race in all virtues. The goal of you all is to Allah. it is He that will show you the truth of the matters in which ye dispute;(762)*

Yusuf Ali (English) Thy Lord is self-sufficient,(955) full of Mercy: if it were His will, He could destroy you, and in your place appoint whom He will as your successors, even as He raised you up from the posterity of other people.*

Yusuf Ali (English) It is He Who produceth(964) gardens, with trellises and without, and dates, and tilth with produce of all kinds, and olives and pomegranates, similar (in kind) and different (in variety):(965) eat of their fruit in their season, but render the dues that are proper on the day that the harvest is gathered. But waste not(966) by excess: for Allah loveth not the wasters.*

Yusuf Ali (English) Say: "Shall I seek for (my) Cherisher other than Allah, when He is the Cherisher of all things (that exist)? Every soul draws the meed of its acts on none(987) but itself: no bearer of burdens can bear of burdens can bear the burden of another. Your goal in the end is towards Allah. He will tell you the truth of the things wherein ye disputed."*

Yusuf Ali (English) It is He Who hath made you (His) agents, inheritors(988) of the earth: He hath raised you in ranks, some above others: that He may try you in the gifts He hath given you: for thy Lord is quick in punishment: yet He is indeed Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.*

Yusuf Ali (English) We appointed for Moses thirty nights, and completed (the period) with ten (more): thus was completed the term (of communion) with his Lord,(1100) forty nights. And Moses had charged his brother Aaron (before he went up): "Act for me amongst my people: Do right, and follow not the way of those who do mischief."(1101)*

Yusuf Ali (English) When Moses came back to his people, angry and grieved, he said: "Evil it is that ye have done in my place in my absence: did ye(1115) make haste to bring on the judgment of your Lord?" He put down the Tablets,(1116) seized his brother by (the hair of) his head, and dragged him(1117) to him. Aaron said: "Son of my mother! the people did indeed reckon me as naught, and went near to slaying me! Make not the enemies rejoice over my misfortune, nor count thou me amongst the people of sin."(1118)*

Yusuf Ali (English) After them succeeded an (evil) generation: They inherited the Book, but they chose (for themselves)(1142) the vanities of this world, saying (for excuse): "(Everything) will be forgiven us." (Even so), if similar vanities came their way, they would (again) seize them. Was not the covenant(1143) of the Book taken from them, that they would not ascribe to Allah anything but the truth? and they study what is in the Book. But best for the righteous is the home in the Hereafter. Will ye not understand?*

37 Al-Anfal Verse 42 (8:42:0) لَاخْتَلَفْتُمْ لاختلفتم laḣteleftum certainly you would have failed خ ل ف
Yusuf Ali (English) Remember ye were on the hither side of the valley, and they on the farther side, and the caravan(1212) on lower ground than ye. Even if ye had made a mutual appointment to meet, ye would certainly have failed in the appointment:(1213) But (thus ye met), that Allah might accomplish a matter already enacted; that those who died might die after a clear Sign (had been given), and those who lived might live after a Clear Sign (had been given). And verily Allah is He Who heareth and knoweth (all things).*

Yusuf Ali (English) If ye gain the mastery over them in war, disperse, with them, those who follow them, that they may remember.(1224-A)*

If only they could understand!*

Yusuf Ali (English) If, then, Allah bring thee back to any of them, and they ask thy permission to come out (with thee), say: "Never shall ye come out with me, nor fight an enemy with me: for ye preferred to sit inactive on the first occasion: Then sit ye (now) with those who lag behind."

Then He turned to them, that they might repent: for Allah is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.*
