Yusuf Ali (English) And Satan will say when the matter is decided:(1897) "It was Allah Who gave you a promise of Truth: I too promised, but I failed in my promise to you. I had no authority over you except to call you but ye listened to me: then reproach not me, but reproach your own souls. I cannot listen to your cries, nor can ye listen to mine. I reject(1898) your former act in associating me with Allah. For wrong-doers there must be a grievous penalty."*

Yusuf Ali (English) Those who give partners (to Allah. will say: "If Allah had wished, we should not have given partners to Him nor would our fathers; nor should we have had(972) any taboos." So did their ancestors argue falsely, until they tasted of Our wrath. Say: "Have ye any (certain) knowledge? If so, produce it before us. Ye follow nothing but conjecture: ye do nothing but lie."*

Yusuf Ali (English) Thou wilt indeed find them, of all people, most greedy of life,-even more than the idolaters: Each one of them wishes He could be given a life of a thousand years: But the grant of such life will not save him from (due) punishment. For Allah sees well all that they do.

Yusuf Ali (English) Ye shall certainly be tried and tested in your possessions and in your personal selves;(493) and ye shall certainly Hear much that will grieve you, from those who received the Book before you and from those who worship many gods. But if ye persevere patiently, and guard against evil,-then that will be a determining factor in all affairs.*

Yusuf Ali (English) Strongest among men in enmity to the believers wilt thou find the Jews and Pagans; and nearest among them in love to the believers wilt thou find those who say,(789) "We are Christians": because amongst these are men devoted to learning(790) and men who have renounced the world, and they are not arrogant.*

Yusuf Ali (English) One day shall We gather them all together: We shall say to those who ascribed partners (to Us): "Where are the partners whom ye (invented and) talked about?"

Yusuf Ali (English) This is the guidance of Allah. He giveth that guidance to whom He pleaseth, of His worshippers. If they were to join other gods with Him, all that they did would be vain for them.

So did those who went before them. But what is the mission of messengers but to preach the Clear Message?(2059)*

Yusuf Ali (English) When those who gave partners to Allah will see their "partners", they will say: "Our Lord! these are our ´partners,´ those whom we used to invoke(2124) besides Thee." But they will throw back their word at them (and say): "Indeed ye are liars!"*

Yusuf Ali (English) Behold, Luqman said(3595) to his son by way of instruction: "O my son! join not in worship (others) with Allah. for false worship is indeed the highest wrong-doing."*

Yusuf Ali (English) Do not marry unbelieving(245-A) women (idolaters), until they believe: A slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman, even though she allures you. Nor marry (your girls) to unbelievers until they believe: A man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though he allures you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the Fire. But Allah beckons by His Grace to the Garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and makes His Signs clear to mankind: That they may celebrate His praise.*
25 At-Tawbah Verse 28 (9:28:0) الْمُشْرِكُونَ المشركون l-muşrikûne the polytheists ش ر ك
Yusuf Ali (English) O ye who believe! Truly the Pagans are unclean;(1278) so let them not, after this year of theirs,(1279) approach the Sacred Mosque. And if ye fear poverty,(1280) soon will Allah enrich you, if He wills, out of His bounty, for Allah is All-knowing, Allwise.*
26 At-Tawbah Verse 33 (9:33:0) الْمُشْرِكُونَ المشركون l-muşrikûn(e) the polytheists ش ر ك
Yusuf Ali (English) It is He Who hath sent His Messenger with guidance and the Religion of Truth, to prevail it(1290) over all religion, even though the Pagans may detest (it).*

Yusuf Ali (English) It is never the wish of those without Faith among the People of the Book, nor of the Pagans, that anything good should come down to you from your Lord. But Allah will choose for His special Mercy whom He will - for Allah is Lord of grace abounding.

If Allah had willed, they would not have done so: But leave alone them and their inventions.*

Yusuf Ali (English) Say: "Verily, my Lord hath guided me to a way that is straight,- a religion of right,- the path (trod) by Abraham the true in Faith, and he (certainly) joined not gods with Allah."

Yusuf Ali (English) A (declaration) of immunity(1246) from Allah and His Messenger, to those of the Pagans with whom ye have contracted mutual alliances:-*
39 At-Tawbah Verse 3 (9:3:0) الْمُشْرِك۪ينَۙ المشركين l-muşrikîne (to) the polytheists ش ر ك
Yusuf Ali (English) And an announcement from Allah and His Messenger, to the people (assembled) on the day of the Great Pilgrimage,-(1248) that Allah and His Messenger dissolve (treaty) obligations with the Pagans. If then, ye repent, it were best for you; but if ye turn away, know ye that ye cannot frustrate Allah. And proclaim a grievous penalty to those who reject Faith.*
40 At-Tawbah Verse 4 (9:4:0) الْمُشْرِك۪ينَ المشركين l-muşrikîne the polytheists ش ر ك
Yusuf Ali (English) (But the treaties are) not dissolved(1249) with those Pagans with whom ye have entered into alliance and who have not subsequently failed you in aught, nor aided any one against you. So fulfil your engagements with them to the end of their term: for Allah loveth the righteous.*
41 At-Tawbah Verse 5 (9:5:0) الْمُشْرِك۪ينَ المشركين l-muşrikîne the polytheists ش ر ك
Yusuf Ali (English) But when the forbidden months(1250) are past, then fight and slay(1251) the Pagans wherever ye find them, an seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent,(1252) and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.*
42 At-Tawbah Verse 6 (9:6:0) الْمُشْرِك۪ينَ المشركين l-muşrikîne the polytheists ش ر ك
Yusuf Ali (English) If one amongst the Pagans(1253) ask thee for asylum, grant it to him, so that he may hear the word of Allah. and then escort him to where he can be secure.(1254) That is because they are men without knowledge.*
43 At-Tawbah Verse 36 (9:36:0) الْمُشْرِك۪ينَ المشركين l-muşrikîne the polytheists ش ر ك
Yusuf Ali (English) The number of months(1295) in the sight of Allah is twelve (in a year)- so ordained by Him the day He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are sacred: that is the straight usage. So wrong not yourselves(1296) therein, and fight the Pagans all together as they fight you all together. But know that Allah is with those who restrain themselves.*
