Is it that whenever there comes to you a messenger with what ye yourselves desire not, ye are puffed up with pride?- Some ye called impostors, and others ye slay(91)!*

Yusuf Ali (English) There came to you Moses with clear (Signs); yet ye worshipped the calf (Even) after that, and ye did behave wrongfully.

Yusuf Ali (English) We have sent down to thee Manifest Signs (ayat); and none reject them but those who are perverse.

But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah.s permission. And they learned what harmed them, not what profited them. And they knew that the buyers of (magic) would have no share in the happiness of the Hereafter. And vile was the price for which they did sell their souls, if they but knew!*
8 Al-Baqarah Verse 108 (2:108:15) فَقَدْ فقد fekad so certainly قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) Would ye question your Messenger as Moses(108) was questioned of old? but whoever changeth from Faith to Unbelief, Hath strayed without doubt from the even way(109).*
9 Al-Baqarah Verse 118 (2:118:20) قَدْ قد kad Indeed قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) Say those without knowledge: "Why speaketh not Allah unto us? or why cometh not unto us a Sign?" So said the people before them words of similar import. Their hearts are alike. We have indeed made clear the Signs unto any people who hold firmly to Faith (in their hearts).

Nor is Allah unmindful of what they do.*
13 Al-Baqarah Verse 231 (2:231:18) فَقَدْ فقد fekad then indeed قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) When ye divorce(261) women, and they are about to fulfil the term of their (´Iddat), either retain them back or let them go; but do not retain them to injure them, (or) to take undue advantage;(262) if any one does that; He wrongs his own soul. Do not treat Allah's Signs as a jest,(263) but solemnly rehearse(264) Allah.s favours on you, and the fact that He sent down to you the Book and Wisdom, for your instruction. And fear Allah, and know that Allah is well-acquainted with all things.*
14 Al-Baqarah Verse 237 (2:237:7) وَقَدْ وقد vekad while already قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) And if ye divorce them before consummation, but after the fixation of a dower for them, then the half of the dower (Is due to them), unless they remit it or (the man´s half) is remitted(269) by him in whose hands is the marriage tie;(270) and the remission (of the man´s half) is the nearest to righteousness. And do not forget Liberality between yourselves. For Allah sees well all that ye do.*

Yusuf Ali (English) Hast thou not Turned thy vision to the Chiefs of the Children of Israel after (the time of) Moses(277)? they said to a prophet (278)(That was) among them: "Appoint for us a king, that we May fight in the cause of Allah." He said: "Is it not possible(279), if ye were commanded to fight, that that ye will not fight?" They said: "How could we refuse to fight in the cause of Allah, seeing that we were turned out of our homes and our families?" but when they were commanded to fight, they turned back, except a small band among them. But Allah Has full knowledge of those who do wrong.*
16 Al-Baqarah Verse 247 (2:247:6) قَدْ قد kad (has) surely قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) Their Prophet said to them: "(Allah) hath appointed Talut(280) as king over you." They said: "How can he exercise authority over us when we are better fitted than he to exercise authority, and he is not even gifted, with wealth in abundance?" He said: "(Allah) hath Chosen him above you, and hath gifted him abundantly with knowledge and bodily prowess: Allah Granteth His authority to whom He pleaseth. Allah careth for all, and He knoweth all things."*

Yusuf Ali (English) Let there be no compulsion(300) in religion: Truth stands out clear from Error: whoever rejects evil and believes in Allah hath grasped the most trustworthy hand-hold, that never breaks(301). And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.*

Yusuf Ali (English) He granteth wisdom to whom He pleaseth; and he to whom wisdom is granted receiveth indeed a benefit overflowing; but none will grasp the Message but men of understanding.

Yusuf Ali (English) "And (appoint him) a messenger to the Children of Israel, (with this message): "´I have come to you, with a Sign from your Lord, in that I make for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allah's leave(390): And I heal those born blind, and the lepers, and I quicken the dead, by Allah.s leave; and I declare to you what ye eat, and what ye store(391) in your houses. Surely therein is a Sign for you if ye did believe;*

Yusuf Ali (English) And how would ye deny Faith while unto you are rehearsed the Signs of Allah, and among you Lives the Messenger. Whoever holds firmly to Allah will be shown a way that is straight.

Yusuf Ali (English) Allah did indeed fulfil His promise to you when ye with His permission Were about to annihilate your enemy,-until ye flinched and fell to disputing about the order,(462) and disobeyed it after He brought you in sight (of the booty) which ye covet. Among you are some that hanker after this world and some that desire the Hereafter. Then did He divert you from your foes in order to test you.(463) But He forgave you: For Allah is full of grace to those who believe.*
32 Ali 'Imran Verse 152 (3:152:33) وَلَقَدْ ولقد ve lekad And surely قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) Allah did indeed fulfil His promise to you when ye with His permission Were about to annihilate your enemy,-until ye flinched and fell to disputing about the order,(462) and disobeyed it after He brought you in sight (of the booty) which ye covet. Among you are some that hanker after this world and some that desire the Hereafter. 33 Ali 'Imran Verse 154 (3:154:13) قَدْ قد kad certainly قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) After (the excitement) of the distress, He sent down calm on a band of you overcome with slumber,(465) while another band was stirred to anxiety by their own feelings, Moved by wrong suspicions of Allah.suspicions due to ignorance. They said: "What affair is this of ours?"(466) Say thou: "Indeed, this affair is wholly Allah.s." They hide in their minds what they dare not reveal to thee. They say (to themselves): "If we had had anything to do with this affair, We should not have been in the slaughter here." Say: "Even if you had remained in your homes, those for whom death was decreed would certainly have gone forth to the place of their death"; but (all this was)(467) that Allah might test what is in your breasts and purge what is in your hearts. For Allah knoweth well the secrets of your hearts.*
34 Ali 'Imran Verse 155 (3:155:14) وَلَقَدْ ولقد ve lekad And surely قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) Those of you(468) who turned back on the day the two hosts Met,-it was Satan who caused them to fail, because of some (evil) they had done. But Allah Has blotted out (their fault): For Allah is Oft-Forgiving, Most Forbearing.*
35 Ali 'Imran Verse 164 (3:164:1) لَقَدْ لقد lekad Certainly قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) Allah did confer a great favour on the believers(473) when He sent among them a messenger from among themselves, rehearsing unto them the Signs of Allah, sanctifying them, and instructing them in Scripture and Wisdom, while, before that, they had been in manifest error.*
36 Ali 'Imran Verse 165 (3:165:4) قَدْ قد kad surely قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) What! When a single disaster smites you, although ye smote (your enemies) with one twice as great, do ye say?- "Whence is this?" Say (to them): "It is from yourselves: For Allah hath power over all things."(474)*

Yusuf Ali (English) Men said to them: "A great army is gathering against you": And frightened them: But it (only) increased their Faith: They said: "For us Allah sufficeth, and He is the best disposer of affairs."

Yusuf Ali (English) Allah hath heard the taunt of those who say: "Truly, Allah(486) is indigent and we are rich!"- We shall certainly record their word and (their act) of slaying the prophets in defiance(487) of right, and We shall say: "Taste ye the penalty of the Scorching Fire!*
39 Ali 'Imran Verse 183 (3:183:16) قَدْ قد kad Surely قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) They (also) said: "(Allah) took our promise not to believe in a messenger unless He showed us a sacrifice consumed by Fire(489) (From heaven)." Say: "There came to you messengers before me, with clear Signs and even with what ye ask for: why then did ye slay them, if ye speak the truth?"*
40 Ali 'Imran Verse 184 (3:184:3) فَقَدْ فقد fekad then certainly قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) Then if they reject thee, so were rejected messengers before thee, who came with Clear Signs, Books of dark prophecies, and the Book of Enlightenment.(490)*

Yusuf Ali (English) Every soul shall have a taste of death:(491) And only on the Day of Judgment shall you be paid your full recompense. Only he who is saved far from the Fire and admitted to the Garden will have attained the object (of Life): For the life of this world is but goods and chattels of deception.(492)*

46 An-Nisa Verse 54 (4:54:10) فَقَدْ فقد fe-kad But surely قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) Or do they envy mankind for what Allah hath given them of his bounty? but We had already given the people of Abraham the Book and Wisdom, and conferred upon them a great kingdom.(576)*
47 An-Nisa Verse 60 (4:60:20) وَقَدْ وقد vekad and surely قَدْ
Yusuf Ali (English) Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those(581) who declare that they believe in the revelations that have come to thee and to those before thee? Their (real) wish is to resort together for judgment (in their disputes) to the Evil One, though they were ordered to reject him. But Satan´s wish is to lead them astray far away (from the right).*

Yusuf Ali (English) There are certainly among you men who would tarry behind:(589) If a misfortune befalls you, they say: "(Allah) did favour us in that we were not present among them."*

Yusuf Ali (English) He who obeys the Messenger, obeys Allah. But if any turn away, We have not sent thee to watch over their (evil deeds).(599)*

Yusuf Ali (English) He who forsakes his home in the cause of Allah, finds in the earth Many a refuge, wide and spacious: Should he die as a refugee from home for Allah and His Messenger, His reward becomes due and sure with Allah. And Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.
