Yusuf Ali (English) Behold! when they meet(83) the men of Faith, they say: "We believe": But when they meet each other in private, they say: "Shall you tell them what Allah hath revealed to you, that they may engage you in argument about it before your Lord?"- Do ye not understand (their aim)?*
5 Al-Baqarah Verse 79 (2:79:14) ثَمَنًا ثمنا śemenen (for) a price ث م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) Then woe to those who write the Book with their own hands, and then say:"This is from Allah," to traffic with it for miserable price!- Woe to them for what their hands do write, and for the gain they make thereby.
6 Al-Baqarah Verse 118 (2:118:6) يُكَلِّمُنَا يكلمنا yukellimuna speaks to us ك ل م
Yusuf Ali (English) Say those without knowledge: "Why speaketh not Allah unto us? or why cometh not unto us a Sign?" So said the people before them words of similar import. Their hearts are alike. We have indeed made clear the Signs unto any people who hold firmly to Faith (in their hearts).
7 Al-Baqarah Verse 125 (2:125:6) وَاَمْنًاۜ وامنا ve emnen and (a place of) security أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) Remember We made the House(125) a place of assembly for men and a place of safety; and take ye the station of Abraham as a place of prayer; and We covenanted with Abraham and Isma´il, that they should sanctify My House for those who compass it round, or use it as a retreat, or bow, or prostrate themselves (therein(126) in prayer).*
8 Al-Baqarah Verse 126 (2:126:8) اٰمِنًا امنا âminen secure أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) And remember Abraham said: "My Lord, make this a City of Peace(127), and feed its people with fruits(128),-such of them as believe in Allah and the Last Day." He said: "(Yea), and such as reject Faith,- for a while will I grant them their pleasure, but will soon drive them to the torment of Fire,- an evil destination (indeed)!"*
9 Al-Baqarah Verse 127 (2:127:10) مِنَّاۜ منا minnâ from us مِنْ
Yusuf Ali (English) And remember Abraham and Isma´il raised the foundations of the House (With this prayer): "Our Lord! Accept (this service) from us: For Thou art the All-Hearing, the All-knowing.
10 Al-Baqarah Verse 128 (2:128:11) مَنَاسِكَنَا مناسكنا menâsikenâ our ways of worship ن س ك
Yusuf Ali (English) "Our Lord! make of us Muslims, bowing to Thy (Will), and of our progeny a people Muslim, bowing to Thy (will); and show us our place for the celebration of (due) rites; and turn unto us (in Mercy); for Thou art the Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.
11 Al-Baqarah Verse 136 (2:136:2) اٰمَنَّا امنا âmennâ We have believed أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) Say ye: "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma´il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)(135)."*
12 Al-Baqarah Verse 167 (2:167:12) مِنَّاۜ منا minnâ [from] us مِنْ
Yusuf Ali (English) And those who followed would say: "If only We had one more chance, We would clear ourselves of them, as they have cleared themselves of us." Thus will Allah show them (The fruits of) their deeds as (nothing but) regrets. Nor will there be a way for them out of the Fire(168).*
13 Al-Baqarah Verse 174 (2:174:11) ثَمَنًا ثمنا śemenen a gain ث م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) Those who conceal Allah.s revelations in the Book, and purchase for them a miserable profit,- they swallow into themselves(175) naught but Fire; Allah will not address them on the Day of Resurrection. Nor purify them: Grievous will be their penalty.*
14 Al-Baqarah Verse 200 (2:200:3) مَنَاسِكَكُمْ مناسككم menâsikekum your acts of worship ن س ك
Yusuf Ali (English) So when ye have accomplished your holy rites, celebrate the praises of Allah, as ye used to celebrate the praises of your fathers(223)- yea, with far more Heart and soul. There are men who say: "Our Lord! Give us (Thy bounties) in this world!" but they will have no portion in the Hereafter(224).*
15 Al-Baqarah Verse 219 (2:219:9) وَمَنَافِعُ ومنافع ve menâfi’u and (some) benefits ن ف ع
Yusuf Ali (English) They ask thee concerning wine(240) and gambling(241). Say: "In them is great sin, and some profit, for men; but the sin is greater than the profit." They ask thee how much they are to spend; Say: "What is beyond(242) your needs." Thus doth Allah Make clear to you His Signs: In order that ye may consider-*
16 Al-Baqarah Verse 250 (2:250:11) اَقْدَامَنَا اقدامنا akdâmenâ our feet ق د م
Yusuf Ali (English) When they advanced to meet Goliath and his forces, they prayed: "Our Lord! Pour out constancy on us and make our steps firm: Help us against those that reject faith."
17 Al-Baqarah Verse 262 (2:262:12) مَنًّا منا mennen (with) reminders of generosity م ن ن
Yusuf Ali (English) Those who spend their substance in the cause of Allah, and follow not up their gifts with reminders of their generosity or with injury,-for them their reward is with their Lord: on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.
18 Al-Baqarah Verse 286 (2:286:43) وَارْحَمْنَا۠ وارحمنا verhamnâ and have mercy on us ر ح م
Yusuf Ali (English) On no soul doth Allah Place a burden greater than it can bear(340). It gets every good that it earns, and it suffers every ill that it earns. (Pray:) "Our Lord! Condemn us not if we forget or fall into error; our Lord! Lay not on us a burden Like that which Thou didst lay on those before us(341); Our Lord! Lay not on us a burden greater than we have strength to bear. Blot out our sins, and grant us forgiveness. Have mercy on us. Thou art our Protector; Help us against those who stand against faith."*
19 Ali 'Imran Verse 7 (3:7:36) اٰمَنَّا امنا âmennâ We believe أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book: In it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation(347) of the Book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded(348) in knowledge say: "We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord:" and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding.*
20 Ali 'Imran Verse 16 (3:16:5) اٰمَنَّا امنا âmennâ (have) believed أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) (Namely), those who say: "Our Lord! we have indeed believed: forgive us, then, our sins, and save us from the agony of the Fire;"-
21 Ali 'Imran Verse 52 (3:52:16) اٰمَنَّا امنا âmennâ we believe[d] أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) When Jesus found Unbelief on their part He said: "Who will be My helpers to (the work of) Allah." Said the disciples: "We are Allah.s helpers: We believe in Allah, and do thou bear witness that we are Muslims(392).*

Yusuf Ali (English) "Our Lord! we believe in what Thou hast revealed, and we follow the Messenger. then write us down among those who bear witness."
23 Ali 'Imran Verse 77 (3:77:7) ثَمَنًا ثمنا śemenen (for) a price ث م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) As for those who sell the faith they owe to Allah and their own plighted word for a small price(412), they shall have no portion in the Hereafter: Nor will Allah (Deign to) speak to them or look at them on the Day of Judgment, nor will He cleans them(413) (of sin): They shall have a grievous penalty.*
24 Ali 'Imran Verse 84 (3:84:2) اٰمَنَّا امنا âmennâ We believed أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) Say: "We believe in Allah, and in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma´il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the prophets, from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another among them, and to Allah do we bow our will (in Islam)."
25 Ali 'Imran Verse 97 (3:97:9) اٰمِنًاۜ امنا âminâ(en) safe أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) In it are Signs Manifest; (for example), the Station of Abraham(424); whoever enters it attains security(425); Pilgrimage thereto is a duty men owe to Allah,- those who can afford the journey; but if any deny faith, Allah stands not in need of any of His creatures.*
26 Ali 'Imran Verse 119 (3:119:13) اٰمَنَّاۗ امنا âmennâ We believe أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) Ah! ye are those who love them, but they love you not,- though ye believe in the whole of the Book(440). When they meet you, they say, "We believe":(441) But when they are alone, they bite off the very tips of their fingers at you in their rage. Say: "Perish in you rage; Allah knoweth well all the secrets of the heart."*
27 Ali 'Imran Verse 147 (3:147:15) اَقْدَامَنَا اقدامنا akdâmenâ our feet ق د م
Yusuf Ali (English) All that they said was: "Our Lord! Forgive us our sins and anything We may have done that transgressed our duty: Establish our feet firmly, and help us against those that resist Faith."
28 Ali 'Imran Verse 187 (3:187:17) ثَمَنًا ثمنا śemenen (for) a price ث م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) And remember Allah took a covenant from the People of the Book,(494) to make it known and clear to mankind, and not to hide it; but they threw it away behind their backs,(495) and purchased with it some miserable gain! And vile was the bargain they made!*
29 Ali 'Imran Verse 193 (3:193:4) مُنَادِيًا مناديا munâdiyen a caller ن د و
Yusuf Ali (English) "Our Lord! we have heard the call of one calling (Us) to Faith, ´Believe ye in the Lord,´ and we have believed. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins, blot out from us our iniquities, and take to Thyself our souls in the company of the righteous.
30 Ali 'Imran Verse 193 (3:193:10) فَاٰمَنَّاۗ فامنا fe-âmennâ so we have believed أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) "Our Lord! we have heard the call of one calling (Us) to Faith, ´Believe ye in the Lord,´ and we have believed. Our Lord! Forgive us our sins, blot out from us our iniquities, and take to Thyself our souls in the company of the righteous.
31 Ali 'Imran Verse 199 (3:199:20) ثَمَنًا ثمنا śemenen (for) a price ث م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) And there are, certainly, among the People of the Book, those who believe in Allah, in the revelation to you, and in the revelation to them, bowing in humility to Allah. They will not sell the Signs of Allah for a miserable gain! For them is a reward with their Lord, and Allah is swift in account.
32 An-Nisa Verse 25 (4:25:9) الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ المؤمنات l-mu/minâti [the] believing women أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) If any of you have not the means wherewith to wed free believing women, they may wed believing girls from among those whom your right hands possess:(540) And Allah hath full knowledge about your faith. Ye are one from another: Wed them with the leave of their owners, and give them their dowers, according to what is reasonable: They should be chaste, not lustful, nor taking paramours: when they are taken in wedlock, if they fall into shame, their punishment is half that for free women. This (permission) is for those among you who fear sin; but it is better for you that ye practise self-restraint. And Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.*
33 An-Nisa Verse 25 (4:25:16) الْمُؤْمِنَاتِۜ المؤمنات l-mu/minât(i) (of) the believers أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) If any of you have not the means wherewith to wed free believing women, they may wed believing girls from among those whom your right hands possess:(540) And Allah hath full knowledge about your faith. Ye are one from another: Wed them with the leave of their owners, and give them their dowers, according to what is reasonable: They should be chaste, not lustful, nor taking paramours: when they are taken in wedlock, if they fall into shame, their punishment is half that for free women. Yusuf Ali (English) When it is said to them: "Come to what Allah hath revealed, and to the Messenger.: Thou seest the Hypocrites avert their faces from thee in disgust.
35 An-Nisa Verse 88 (4:88:4) الْمُنَافِق۪ينَ المنافقين l-munâfikîne the hypocrites (that) ن ف ق
Yusuf Ali (English) Why should ye be divided into two parties about the Hypocrites?(606) Allah hath upset them for their (evil) deeds. Would ye guide those whom Allah hath thrown out of the Way? For those whom Allah hath thrown out of the Way, never shalt thou find the Way.*
36 An-Nisa Verse 92 (4:92:6) مُؤْمِنًا مؤمنا mu/minen a believer أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) Never should a believer kill a believer; but (If it so happens) by mistake,(611) (Compensation is due): If one (so) kills a believer, it is ordained that he should free a believing slave, and pay compensation to the deceased´s family, unless they remit it freely. If the deceased belonged to a people at war with you, and he was a believer, the freeing of a believing slave (Is enough). If he belonged to a people with whom ye have treaty of Mutual alliance, compensation should be paid to his family, and a believing slave be freed. For those who find this beyond their means, (is prescribed) a fast for two months running: by way of repentance to Allah. for Allah hath all knowledge and all wisdom.*
37 An-Nisa Verse 92 (4:92:11) مُؤْمِنًا مؤمنا mu/minen a believer أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) Never should a believer kill a believer; but (If it so happens) by mistake,(611) (Compensation is due): If one (so) kills a believer, it is ordained that he should free a believing slave, and pay compensation to the deceased´s family, unless they remit it freely. Yusuf Ali (English) If a man kills a believer intentionally, his recompense(612) is Hell, to abide therein (For ever): And the wrath and the curse of Allah are upon him, and a dreadful penalty is prepared for him.*
39 An-Nisa Verse 94 (4:94:18) مُؤْمِنًاۚ مؤمنا mu/minen a believer أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) O ye who believe! When ye go abroad(613) in the cause of Allah, investigate carefully, and say not to any one who offers you a salutation: "Thou art none of a believer!" Coveting the perishable goods of this life: with Allah are profits and spoils abundant. Even thus were ye yourselves before, till Allah conferred on you His favours: Therefore carefully investigate. For Allah is well aware of all that ye do.*
40 An-Nisa Verse 138 (4:138:2) الْمُنَافِق۪ينَ المنافقين l-munâfikîne (to) the hypocrites ن ف ق
Yusuf Ali (English) To the Hypocrites give the glad tidings that there is for them (but) a grievous penalty-
41 An-Nisa Verse 140 (4:140:29) الْمُنَافِق۪ينَ المنافقين l-munâfikîne the hypocrites ن ف ق
Yusuf Ali (English) Already has He sent you(649) Word in the Book, that when ye hear the signs of Allah held in defiance and ridicule, ye are not to sit with them unless they turn to a different theme: if ye did, ye would be like them. For Allah will collect the hypocrites and those who defy faith - all in Hell:-*
42 An-Nisa Verse 142 (4:142:2) الْمُنَافِق۪ينَ المنافقين l-munâfikîne the hypocrites ن ف ق
Yusuf Ali (English) The Hypocrites - they think they are over-reaching Allah, but He will over- reach them: When they stand up to prayer, they stand without earnestness, to be seen of men, but little do they hold Allah in remembrance;
43 An-Nisa Verse 145 (4:145:2) الْمُنَافِق۪ينَ المنافقين l-munâfikîne the hypocrites ن ف ق
Yusuf Ali (English) The Hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire: no helper wilt thou find for them;-
44 An-Nisa Verse 160 (4:160:5) حَرَّمْنَا حرمنا harramnâ We made unlawful ح ر م
Yusuf Ali (English) For the iniquity of the Jews We made unlawful for them(667) certain (foods) good and wholesome which had been lawful for them;- in that they hindered many from Allah.s Way;-*
45 Al-Ma'idah Verse 5 (5:5:16) الْمُؤْمِنَاتِ المؤمنات l-mu/minâti the believers أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) This day are (all) things good and pure made lawful unto you. The food of the People of the Book(699) is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them. (Lawful unto you in marriage) are (not only) chaste women who are believers, but chaste women among the People of the Book,(700) revealed before your time,- when ye give them their due dowers, and desire chastity, not lewdness, nor secret intrigues if any one rejects faith,(701) fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good).*
46 Al-Ma'idah Verse 41 (5:41:13) اٰمَنَّا امنا âmennâ We believe أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) O Messenger. let not those grieve thee, who race each other into unbelief:(744) (whether it be) among those who say "We believe" with their lips but whose hearts have no faith; or it be among the Jews,- men who will listen to any lie,- will listen even to others who have never so much as come(745) to thee. They change the words from their (right) times(746) and places: they say, "If ye are given this, take it, but if not, beware!" If any one´s trial is intended by Allah, thou hast no authority in the least for him against Allah. For such - it is not Allah.s will to purify their hearts. For them there is disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a heavy punishment.*
47 Al-Ma'idah Verse 44 (5:44:31) ثَمَنًا ثمنا śemenen (for) a price ث م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) It was We who revealed the law (to Moses): therein was guidance and light(750). By its standard have been judged the Jews, by the prophets who bowed (as in Islam) to Allah.s will, by the rabbis(751) and the doctors of law: for to them was entrusted the protection of Allah.s book, and they were witnesses thereto(752): therefore fear not men, but fear me, and sell not my signs for a miserable price(753). If any do fail to judge by (the light of) what Allah hath revealed, they are (no better than) Unbelievers.*
48 Al-Ma'idah Verse 48 (5:48:11) وَمُهَيْمِنًا ومهيمنا ve muheyminen and a guardian ه م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it, and guarding it(759) in safety: so judge between them by what Allah hath revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging from the Truth that hath come to thee. To each among you have we prescribed a law and an open way.(760) If Allah had so willed, He would have made you(761) a single people, but (His plan is) to test you in what He hath given you: so strive as in a race in all virtues. The goal of you all is to Allah. it is He that will show you the truth of the matters in which ye dispute;(762)*
49 Al-Ma'idah Verse 59 (5:59:7) مِنَّٓا منا minnâ [of] us مِنْ
Yusuf Ali (English) Say: "O people of the Book! Do ye disapprove of us for no other reason than that we believe in Allah, and the revelation that hath come to us and that which came before (us), and (perhaps) that most of you are rebellious and disobedient?(769)"*
50 Al-Ma'idah Verse 59 (5:59:10) اٰمَنَّا امنا âmennâ we believe أ م ن
Yusuf Ali (English) Say: "O people of the Book! Do ye disapprove of us for no other reason than that we believe in Allah, and the revelation that hath come to us and that which came before (us), and (perhaps) that most of you are rebellious and disobedient?(769)"*
