Yusuf Ali (English) In order that Allah may separate(1206) the impure from the pure, put the impure, one on another, heap them together, and cast them into Hell. They will be the ones to have lost.*
304 Al-Anfal Verse 41 (8:41:0) عَلٰى على ‘alâ to عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) And know that out of all the booty that ye may acquire (in war), a fifth share is assigned(1209) to Allah,- and to the Messenger, and to near relatives, orphans, the needy, and the wayfarer,- if ye do believe in Allah and in the revelation We sent down to Our servant on the Day of Testing,-(1210) the Day of the meeting of the two forces. For Allah hath power over all things.(1211)*
305 Al-Anfal Verse 41 (8:41:0) عَلٰى على ‘alâ (is) on عَلَىٰ

Yusuf Ali (English) Remember Satan made their (sinful) acts seem alluring to them, and said: "No one among men can overcome you this day, while I am near to you": But when the two forces came in sight of each other, he turned on his heels, and said: "Lo! I am clear of you; lo! I see what ye see not; Lo! I fear Allah. for Allah is strict in punishment."(1217)*
307 Al-Anfal Verse 49 (8:49:0) عَلَى على ‘alâ in عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) Lo! the hypocrites say, and those in whose hearts is a disease:(1218) "These people,- their religion has misled them." But if any trust in Allah, behold! Allah is Exalted in might, Wise.*
308 Al-Anfal Verse 53 (8:53:0) عَلٰى على ‘alâ on عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) "Because Allah will never change(1221) the grace which He hath bestowed on a people until they change what is in their (own) souls: and verily Allah is He Who heareth and knoweth (all things)."*
309 Al-Anfal Verse 58 (8:58:0) عَلٰى على ‘alâ on عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) If thou fearest treachery from any group, throw back (their covenant) to them, (so as to be) on equal terms: for Allah loveth not the treacherous.
310 Al-Anfal Verse 61 (8:61:0) عَلَى على ‘alâ in عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) But if the enemy incline towards peace, do thou (also) incline towards peace, and trust in Allah. for He is One that heareth and knoweth (All things).(1228)*
311 Al-Anfal Verse 65 (8:65:0) عَلَى على ‘alâ to عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) O Messenger. rouse the Believers to the fight. If there are twenty amongst you, patient and persevering, they will vanquish two hundred: if a hundred, they will vanquish a thousand of the Unbelievers: for these are a people without understanding.(1232)*
312 Al-Anfal Verse 69 (8:69:0) حَلَالًا حلالا halâlen lawful ح ل ل
Yusuf Ali (English) But (now) enjoy(1236) what ye took in war, lawful and good: but fear Allah. for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.*
313 Al-Anfal Verse 72 (8:72:0) عَلٰى على ‘alâ against عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) Those who believed, and adopted exile, and fought for the Faith, with their property and their persons, in the cause of Allah, as well as those who gave (them) asylum(1239) and aid,- these are (all) friends and protectors, one of another. As to those who believed but came not into exile,(1240) ye owe no duty of protection to them until they come into exile; but if they seek your aid in religion, it is your duty to help them, except against a people with whom ye have a treaty of mutual alliance.(1241) And (remember) Allah seeth all that ye do.*
314 At-Tawbah Verse 5 (9:5:0) الصَّلٰوةَ الصلوة ssalâte the prayer ص ل و
Yusuf Ali (English) But when the forbidden months(1250) are past, then fight and slay(1251) the Pagans wherever ye find them, an seize them, beleaguer them, and lie in wait for them in every stratagem (of war); but if they repent,(1252) and establish regular prayers and practise regular charity, then open the way for them: for Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.*
315 At-Tawbah Verse 11 (9:11:0) الصَّلٰوةَ الصلوة ssalâte the prayer ص ل و
Yusuf Ali (English) But (even so), if they repent,(1259) establish regular prayers, and practise regular charity,- they are your brethren in Faith: (thus) do We explain the Signs in detail, for those who understand.*
316 At-Tawbah Verse 15 (9:15:0) عَلٰى على ‘alâ of عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) And still the indignation of their hearts.(1263) For Allah will turn (in mercy)(1264) to whom He will; and Allah is All-Knowing, All-Wise.*
317 At-Tawbah Verse 17 (9:17:0) عَلٰٓى على ‘alâ against عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) It is not for such as join gods with Allah, to visit or maintain(1266) the mosques of Allah while they witness against their own souls to infidelity. The works of such bear no fruit: In Fire shall they dwell.*
318 At-Tawbah Verse 18 (9:18:0) الصَّلٰوةَ الصلوة ssalâte the prayer ص ل و
Yusuf Ali (English) The mosques of Allah shall be visited and maintained by such as believe in Allah and the Last Day, establish regular prayers, and practise regular charity, and fear none (at all) except Allah.(1267) It is they who are expected to be on true guidance.(1268)*
319 At-Tawbah Verse 23 (9:23:0) عَلَى على ‘alâ over عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) O ye who believe! take not for protectors your fathers and your brothers if they love infidelity above Faith: if any of you do so, they do wrong.
320 At-Tawbah Verse 26 (9:26:0) عَلٰى على ‘alâ on عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) But Allah did pour His calm(1276) on the Messenger and on the Believers, and sent down forces which ye saw not: He punished the Unbelievers; thus doth He reward those without Faith.*
321 At-Tawbah Verse 26 (9:26:0) وَعَلَى وعلى ve ’alâ and on عَلَىٰ

322 At-Tawbah Verse 27 (9:27:0) عَلٰى على ‘alâ for عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) Again will Allah, after this,(1277) turn (in mercy) to whom He will: for Allah is Oft- forgiving, Most Merciful.*
323 At-Tawbah Verse 33 (9:33:0) عَلَى على ‘alâ over عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) It is He Who hath sent His Messenger with guidance and the Religion of Truth, to prevail it(1290) over all religion, even though the Pagans may detest (it).*
324 At-Tawbah Verse 39 (9:39:0) عَلٰى على ‘alâ (is) on عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) Unless ye go forth,(1301) He will punish you with a grievous penalty, and put others in your place; but Him ye would not harm in the least. For Allah hath power over all things.*

Yusuf Ali (English) Say: "Nothing will happen to us except what Allah has decreed for us: He is our protector": and on Allah let the Believers put their trust.

Yusuf Ali (English) The only reasons why their contributions are not accepted are: that they reject Allah and His Messenger. that they come to prayer without earnestness; and that they offer contributions unwillingly.
327 At-Tawbah Verse 54 (9:54:0) كُسَالٰى كسالى kusâlâ (are) lazy ك س ل
Yusuf Ali (English) The only reasons why their contributions are not accepted are: that they reject Allah and His Messenger. that they come to prayer without earnestness; and that they offer contributions unwillingly.

Yusuf Ali (English) As in the case of those before you: they were mightier than you in power, and more flourishing in wealth and children. They had their enjoyment of their portion: and ye have of yours, as did those before you; and ye indulge in idle talk as they did. They!- their work are fruitless in this world and in the Hereafter, and they will lose (all spiritual good).

332 At-Tawbah Verse 84 (9:84:0) عَلٰٓى على ‘alâ for عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) Nor do thou ever pray for any of them that dies, nor stand at his grave;(1337) for they rejected Allah and His Messenger, and died in a state of perverse rebellion.*

Yusuf Ali (English) The Arabs of the desert are the worst in Unbelief and hypocrisy, and most fitted to be in ignorance of the command which Allah hath sent down to His Messenger. But Allah is All-knowing, All-Wise.
343 At-Tawbah Verse 101 (9:101:0) عَلَى على ‘alâ in عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) Certain of the desert Arabs round about you are hypocrites, as well as (desert Arabs) among the Medina folk(1350): they are obstinate in hypocrisy: thou knowest them not: We know them: twice shall We punish them(1351): and in addition shall they be sent to a grievous penalty.*
344 At-Tawbah Verse 103 (9:103:0) صَلٰوتَكَ صلوتك salâteke your blessings ص ل و
Yusuf Ali (English) Of their goods, take alms, that so thou mightest purify and sanctify them; and pray on their behalf. Verily thy prayers are a source of security for them: And Allah is One Who heareth and knoweth.
345 At-Tawbah Verse 108 (9:108:0) عَلَى على ‘alâ on عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) Never stand thou forth therein. There is a mosque whose foundation(1357) was laid from the first day on piety; it is more worthy of the standing forth (for prayer) therein. In it are men who love to be purified; and Allah loveth those who make themselves pure.(1358)*
346 At-Tawbah Verse 109 (9:109:0) عَلٰى على ‘alâ on عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) Which then is best? - he that layeth his foundation on piety to Allah and His good pleasure? - or he that layeth his foundation on an undermined sandcliff( 1359) ready to crumble to pieces? and it doth crumble to pieces with him, into the fire of Hell. And Allah guideth not people that do wrong.*
347 At-Tawbah Verse 109 (9:109:0) عَلٰى على ‘alâ on عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) Which then is best? - he that layeth his foundation on piety to Allah and His good pleasure? - or he that layeth his foundation on an undermined sandcliff( 1359) ready to crumble to pieces? and it doth crumble to pieces with him, into the fire of Hell. And Allah guideth not people that do wrong.*
348 At-Tawbah Verse 117 (9:117:0) عَلَى على ‘alâ to عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) Allah turned with favour to the Prophet, the Muhajirs,(1368) and the Ansar,- who followed him in a time of distress, after that the hearts of a part (1369)of them had nearly swerved (from duty); but He turned to them (also): for He is unto them Most Kind, Most Merciful.*
349 At-Tawbah Verse 118 (9:118:0) وَعَلَى وعلى ve ’alâ And on عَلَىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) (He turned in mercy also) to the three who were left behind; (they felt guilty)(1370) to such a degree that the earth seemed constrained to them, for all its spaciousness, and their (very) souls seemed straitened to them,- and they perceived that there is no fleeing from Allah (and no refuge) but to Himself. Then He turned to them, that they might repent: for Allah is Oft-Returning, Most Merciful.*
