Yusuf Ali (English) We said: "Get ye down all from here; and if, as is sure, there comes to you Guidance from me(56), whosoever follows My guidance, on them shall be no fear, nor shall they grieve.*
5 Al-Baqarah Verse 39 (2:39:4) بِاٰيَاتِنَٓا باياتنا bi-âyâtinâ Our Signs أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) "But those who reject Faith and belie Our Signs, they shall be companions of the Fire; they shall abide therein(57)."*
6 Al-Baqarah Verse 41 (2:41:14) بِاٰيَات۪ي باياتي bi-âyâtî My Signs (for) أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) And believe in what I reveal(59), confirming the revelation which is with you, and be not the first to reject Faith therein, nor sell My Signs for a small price; and fear Me, and Me alone.*
7 Al-Baqarah Verse 53 (2:53:7) تَهْتَدُونَ تهتدون tehtedûn(e) (would be) guided ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) And remember We gave Moses the Scripture and the Criterion (68)(Between right and wrong): There was a chance for you to be guided aright.*
8 Al-Baqarah Verse 61 (2:61:50) بِاٰيَاتِ بايات bi-âyâti in (the) Signs أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) And remember ye said: "O Moses! we cannot endure one kind of food (always); so beseech thy Lord for us to produce for us of what the earth groweth, -its potherbs, and cucumbers, Its garlic, lentils, and onions." He said: "Will ye exchange the better for the worse? Go ye down to any town(74), and ye shall find what ye want!" They were covered with humiliation(75) and misery; they drew on themselves the wrath of Allah. This because they went on rejecting the Signs of Allah and slaying His Messengers without just cause. This because they rebelled and went on transgressing.*
9 Al-Baqarah Verse 70 (2:70:17) لَمُهْتَدُونَ لمهتدون le-muhtedûn(e) (will) surely be those who are guided ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) They said: "Beseech on our behalf Thy Lord to make plain to us what she is: To us are all heifers alike: We wish indeed for guidance, if Allah wills."
10 Al-Baqarah Verse 73 (2:73:9) اٰيَاتِه۪ اياته âyâtihi His Signs أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) So We said: "Strike the (body) with a piece of the (heifer)." Thus Allah bringeth the dead to life and showeth you His Signs: Perchance ye may understand.
11 Al-Baqarah Verse 97 (2:97:16) وَهُدًى وهدى ve huden and a guidance ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Say: Whoever is an enemy(101) to Gabriel-for he brings down the (revelation) to thy heart by Allah.s will, a confirmation of what went before, and guidance and glad tidings for those who believe,-*
12 Al-Baqarah Verse 99 (2:99:4) اٰيَاتٍ ايات âyâtin Verses أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) We have sent down to thee Manifest Signs (ayat); and none reject them but those who are perverse.
13 Al-Baqarah Verse 102 (2:102:58) عَلِمُوا علموا ‘alimû they knew ع ل م
Yusuf Ali (English) They followed what the evil ones(103) gave out (falsely) against the power of Solomon: the blasphemers Were, not Solomon, but the evil ones, teaching men Magic, and such things as came down at babylon to the angels Harut and Marut(104). But neither of these taught anyone (Such things) without saying: "We are only for trial; so do not blaspheme." They learned from them(105) the means to sow discord between man and wife. But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah.s permission. And they learned what harmed them, not what profited them. And they knew that the buyers of (magic) would have no share in the happiness of the Hereafter. And vile was the price for which they did sell their souls, if they but knew!*
14 Al-Baqarah Verse 106 (2:106:4) اٰيَةٍ اية âyetin a sign أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) None of Our revelations(107) do We abrogate or cause to be forgotten, but We substitute something better or similar: Knowest thou not that Allah Hath power over all things?*
15 Al-Baqarah Verse 109 (2:109:6) لَوْ لو lev if لَوْ
Yusuf Ali (English) Quite a number of the People of the Book wish they could Turn you (people) back to infidelity after ye have believed, from selfish envy, after the Truth hath become Manifest unto them: But forgive and overlook(110), Till Allah accomplish His purpose; for Allah Hath power over all things(112).*
16 Al-Baqarah Verse 118 (2:118:10) اٰيَةٌۜ اية âye(tun) a sign أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Say those without knowledge: "Why speaketh not Allah unto us? or why cometh not unto us a Sign?" So said the people before them words of similar import. Their hearts are alike. We have indeed made clear the Signs unto any people who hold firmly to Faith (in their hearts).
17 Al-Baqarah Verse 118 (2:118:22) الْاٰيَاتِ الايات l-âyâti the signs أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Say those without knowledge: "Why speaketh not Allah unto us? or why cometh not unto us a Sign?" So said the people before them words of similar import. Their hearts are alike. We have indeed made clear the Signs unto any people who hold firmly to Faith (in their hearts).
18 Al-Baqarah Verse 120 (2:120:12) هُدَى هدى huda (the) Guidance ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Never will the Jews or the Christians be satisfied with thee unless thou follow their form of religion. Say: "The Guidance of Allah,-that is the (only) Guidance." Wert thou to follow their desires after the knowledge which hath reached thee, then wouldst thou find neither Protector nor helper against Allah.
19 Al-Baqarah Verse 129 (2:129:8) اٰيَاتِكَ اياتك âyâtike Your Verses أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) "Our Lord! send amongst them a Messenger of their own, who shall rehearse Thy Signs to them and instruct them in scripture and wisdom, and sanctify them: For Thou art the Exalted in Might, the Wise(129)."*
20 Al-Baqarah Verse 145 (2:145:7) اٰيَةٍ اية âyetin (the) signs أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Even if thou wert to bring to the people of the Book all the Signs (together), they would not follow Thy Qiblah; nor art thou going to follow their Qiblah; nor indeed will they follow(150) each other´s Qiblah. If thou after the knowledge hath reached thee, Wert to follow their (vain) desires,-then wert thou Indeed (clearly) in the wrong.*
21 Al-Baqarah Verse 150 (2:150:31) تَهْتَدُونَۙ تهتدون tehtedûn(e) (be) guided ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) So from whencesoever Thou startest forth, turn Thy face in the direction of the sacred Mosque; and wheresoever ye are, Turn your face thither: that there be no ground of dispute against you among the people, except those of them that are bent on wickedness; so fear them not, but fear Me; and that I may complete My favours on you, and ye May (consent to) be guided;
22 Al-Baqarah Verse 151 (2:151:8) اٰيَاتِنَا اياتنا âyâtinâ Our verses أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) A similar (favour have ye already received)(155) in that We have sent among you a Messenger of your own, rehearsing to you Our Signs, and sanctifying you, and instructing you in Scripture and Wisdom, and in new knowledge.*
23 Al-Baqarah Verse 159 (2:159:8) وَالْهُدٰى والهدى vel-hudâ and the Guidance ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Those who conceal the clear (Signs) We have sent down, and the Guidance, after We have made it clear for the people in the Book,-on them shall be Allah.s curse, and the curse of those entitled to curse(163)-*
24 Al-Baqarah Verse 175 (2:175:5) بِالْهُدٰى بالهدى bil-hudâ for [the] Guidance ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) They are the ones who buy Error in place of Guidance and Torment in place of Forgiveness. Ah! what boldness (They show) for the Fire!
25 Al-Baqarah Verse 185 (2:185:7) هُدًى هدى huden a Guidance ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur´an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment(192) (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. Allah intends every facility for you; He does not want to put to difficulties. (He wants you) to complete the prescribed period, and to glorify Him(193) in that He has guided you; and perchance ye shall be grateful.*
26 Al-Baqarah Verse 185 (2:185:11) الْهُدٰى الهدى l-hudâ [the] Guidance ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Ramadhan is the (month) in which was sent down the Qur´an, as a guide to mankind, also clear (Signs) for guidance and judgment(192) (Between right and wrong). So every one of you who is present (at his home) during that month should spend it in fasting, but if any one is ill, or on a journey, the prescribed period (Should be made up) by days later. 27 Al-Baqarah Verse 187 (2:187:62) اٰيَاتِه۪ اياته âyâtihi His verses أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Permitted to you, on the night of the fasts, is the approach to your wives. They are your garments and ye are their garments(195). Allah knoweth what ye used to do secretly among yourselves; but He turned to you and forgave you; so now associate with them, and seek what Allah Hath ordained for you(196), and eat and drink, until the white thread of dawn appear to you distinct from its black thread(197); then complete your fast Till the night appears(198); but do not associate with your wives while ye are in retreat(199) in the mosques. Those are(200) Limits (set by) Allah. Approach not nigh thereto. Thus doth Allah make clear His Signs to men: that they may learn self-restraint.*
28 Al-Baqarah Verse 198 (2:198:20) هَدٰيكُمْۚ هديكم hedâkum He (has) guided you ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) It is no crime in you if ye seek of the bounty of your Lord (during pilgrimage)(219). Then when ye pour down from (Mount) Arafat, celebrate the praises of Allah at the Sacred Monument(220), and celebrate His praises as He has directed you, even though, before this, ye went astray(221).*
29 Al-Baqarah Verse 211 (2:211:7) اٰيَةٍ اية âyetin (the) Sign(s) أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Ask the Children of Israel(232) how many clear (Signs) We have sent them. But if any one, after Allah.s favour has come to him, substitutes (something else), Allah is strict in punishment(233).*
30 Al-Baqarah Verse 214 (2:214:17) حَتّٰى حتى hattâ until  حَتَّىٰ
Yusuf Ali (English) Or do ye think that ye shall enter the Garden (of bliss) without such (trials) as came to those who passed away before you? they encountered suffering and adversity, and were so shaken in spirit that even the Messenger and those of faith who were with him cried: "When (will come) the help of Allah." Ah! Verily, the help of Allah is (always) near!
31 Al-Baqarah Verse 219 (2:219:24) الْاٰيَاتِ الايات l-âyâti [the] Verses أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) They ask thee concerning wine(240) and gambling(241). Say: "In them is great sin, and some profit, for men; but the sin is greater than the profit." They ask thee how much they are to spend; Say: "What is beyond(242) your needs." Thus doth Allah Make clear to you His Signs: In order that ye may consider-*
32 Al-Baqarah Verse 221 (2:221:36) اٰيَاتِه۪ اياته âyâtihi His Verses أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Do not marry unbelieving(245-A) women (idolaters), until they believe: A slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman, even though she allures you. Nor marry (your girls) to unbelievers until they believe: A man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though he allures you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the Fire. But Allah beckons by His Grace to the Garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and makes His Signs clear to mankind: That they may celebrate His praise.*
33 Al-Baqarah Verse 231 (2:231:23) اٰيَاتِ ايات âyâti (the) Verses أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) When ye divorce(261) women, and they are about to fulfil the term of their (´Iddat), either retain them back or let them go; but do not retain them to injure them, (or) to take undue advantage;(262) if any one does that; He wrongs his own soul. Do not treat Allah's Signs as a jest,(263) but solemnly rehearse(264) Allah.s favours on you, and the fact that He sent down to you the Book and Wisdom, for your instruction. And fear Allah, and know that Allah is well-acquainted with all things.*
34 Al-Baqarah Verse 240 (2:240:13) فَاِنْ فان fe-in But if إِنْ
Yusuf Ali (English) Those of you who die and leave widows should bequeath for their widows a year´s maintenance and residence;(273) but if they leave (The residence), there is no blame on you for what they do with themselves, provided it is reasonable. And Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.*
35 Al-Baqarah Verse 242 (2:242:5) اٰيَاتِه۪ اياته âyâtihi His Verses أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Thus doth Allah Make clear His Signs to you: In order that ye may understand.
36 Al-Baqarah Verse 249 (2:249:30) فَلَمَّا فلما fe-lemmâ Then when لَمَّا
Yusuf Ali (English) When Talut set forth with the armies, he said(284): "(Allah) will test you at the stream: if any drinks of its water, He goes not with my army: Only those who taste not of it go with me: A mere sip out of the hand is excused." but they all drank of it, except a few. When they crossed the river,- He and the faithful ones with him,they said: "This day(285) We cannot cope with Goliath and his forces." but those who were convinced that they must meet Allah, said: "How oft, by Allah.s will, Hath a small force vanquished a big one? Allah is with those who steadfastly persevere."*
37 Al-Baqarah Verse 252 (2:252:2) اٰيَاتُ ايات âyâtu (are the) Verses أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) These are the Signs of Allah. we rehearse them to thee in truth: verily Thou art one of the messengers.
38 Al-Baqarah Verse 266 (2:266:33) الْاٰيَاتِ الايات l-âyâti (His) Signs أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Does any of you wish that he should have a garden(312) with date-palms and vines and streams flowing underneath, and all kinds of fruit, while he is stricken with old age, and his children are not strong (enough(313) to look after themselves)- that it should be caught in a whirlwind, with fire therein, and be burnt up? Thus doth Allah make clear to you (His) Signs; that ye may consider.*
39 Al-Baqarah Verse 272 (2:272:3) هُدٰيهُمْ هديهم hudâhum (is) their guidance ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) It is not required of thee (O Messenger., to set them on the right path(320), but Allah sets on the right path whom He pleaseth. Whatever of good ye give benefits your own souls, and ye shall only do so seeking the "Face(321)" of Allah. Whatever good ye give, shall be rendered back to you, and ye shall not Be dealt with unjustly.*
40 Ali 'Imran Verse 4 (3:4:10) بِاٰيَاتِ بايات bi-âyâti in (the) Verses أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Then those who reject Faith in the Signs of Allah will suffer the severest penalty, and Allah is Exalted in Might, Lord of Retribution.
41 Ali 'Imran Verse 7 (3:7:7) اٰيَاتٌ ايات âyâtun (are) Verses أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book: In it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation(347) of the Book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded(348) in knowledge say: "We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord:" and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding.*
42 Ali 'Imran Verse 11 (3:11:8) بِاٰيَاتِنَاۚ باياتنا bi-âyâtinâ Our Signs أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) (Their plight will be) no better than that of the people of Pharaoh(350), and their predecessors: They denied our Signs, and Allah called them to account for their sins. For Allah is strict in punishment.*
43 Ali 'Imran Verse 19 (3:19:21) بِاٰيَاتِ بايات bi-âyâti in (the) Verses أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) The Religion before Allah is Islam (submission to His Will): Nor did the People of the Book dissent therefrom except through envy of each other(359), after knowledge had come to them. But if any deny the Signs of Allah, Allah is swift in calling to account.*
44 Ali 'Imran Verse 21 (3:21:4) بِاٰيَاتِ بايات bi-âyâti in (the) Signs (of) أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) As to those who deny the Signs of Allah and in defiance of right(363), slay the prophets, and slay those who teach just dealing with mankind(364), announce to them a grievous penalty.*
45 Ali 'Imran Verse 58 (3:58:5) الْاٰيَاتِ الايات l-âyâti the Verses أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) "This is what we rehearse unto thee of the Signs and the Message of Wisdom."
46 Ali 'Imran Verse 70 (3:70:6) بِاٰيَاتِ بايات bi-âyâti [in] the Signs أ ي ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Ye People of the Book! Why reject ye the Signs of Allah, of which ye are (Yourselves) witnesses?
47 Ali 'Imran Verse 73 (3:73:9) الْهُدٰى الهدى l-hudâ the (true) guidance ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) "And believe no one unless he follows your religion." Say: "True guidance is the Guidance of Allah. (Fear ye) Lest a revelation(407) be sent to someone (else) Like unto that which was sent unto you? or that those (Receiving such revelation) should engage you in argument before your Lord(408)?" Say: "All bounties are in the hand of Allah. He granteth them to whom He pleaseth: And Allah careth for all, and He knoweth all things."*
48 Ali 'Imran Verse 73 (3:73:10) هُدَى هدى huda (is the) Guidance ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) "And believe no one unless he follows your religion." Say: "True guidance is the Guidance of Allah. (Fear ye) Lest a revelation(407) be sent to someone (else) Like unto that which was sent unto you? or that those (Receiving such revelation) should engage you in argument before your Lord(408)?" Say: "All bounties are in the hand of Allah. He granteth them to whom He pleaseth: And Allah careth for all, and He knoweth all things."*
49 Ali 'Imran Verse 96 (3:96:9) وَهُدًى وهدى ve huden and a guidance ه د ي
Yusuf Ali (English) The first House (of worship) appointed for men was that at Bakkah(422): Full of blessing and of guidance for all kinds of beings(423):*
