They were covered with humiliation(75) and misery; they drew on themselves the wrath of Allah. This because they went on rejecting the Signs of Allah and slaying His Messengers without just cause. Allah knoweth what ye used to do secretly among yourselves; but He turned to you and forgave you; so now associate with them, and seek what Allah Hath ordained for you(196), and eat and drink, until the white thread of dawn appear to you distinct from its black thread(197); then complete your fast Till the night appears(198); but do not associate with your wives while ye are in retreat(199) in the mosques. Those are(200) Limits (set by) Allah. Approach not nigh thereto. Thus doth Allah make clear His Signs to men: that they may learn self-restraint.* | |||||

But Allah beckons by His Grace to the Garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and makes His Signs clear to mankind: That they may celebrate His praise.* | |||||

If that is beyond your means, fast for three days. That is the expiation for the oaths ye have sworn. But keep to your oaths.
