Then is it only a part of the Book that ye believe in, and do ye reject the rest? but what is the reward for those among you who behave like this but disgrace in this life?- and on the Day of Judgment they shall be consigned to the most grievous penalty. For Allah is not unmindful of what ye do.*
5 Al-Baqarah Verse 87 (2:87:5) وَقَفَّيْنَا وقفينا ve kaffeynâ and We followed up ق ف و
Yusuf Ali (English) We gave Moses the Book and followed him up with a succession of messengers; We gave Jesus the son of Mary(90) Clear (Signs) and strengthened him with the holy spirit. Is it that whenever there comes to you a messenger with what ye yourselves desire not, ye are puffed up with pride?- Some ye called impostors, and others ye slay(91)!*
6 Al-Baqarah Verse 96 (2:96:10) اَحَدُهُمْ احدهم ehaduhum (each) one of them أ ح د
Yusuf Ali (English) Thou wilt indeed find them, of all people, most greedy of life,-even more than the idolaters: Each one of them wishes He could be given a life of a thousand years: But the grant of such life will not save him from (due) punishment. For Allah sees well all that they do.

Yusuf Ali (English) Say those without knowledge: "Why speaketh not Allah unto us? or why cometh not unto us a Sign?" So said the people before them words of similar import. Their hearts are alike. We have indeed made clear the Signs unto any people who hold firmly to Faith (in their hearts).

Yusuf Ali (English) Say ye: "We believe in Allah, and the revelation given to us, and to Abraham, Isma´il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and that given to Moses and Jesus, and that given to (all) prophets from their Lord: We make no difference between one and another of them: And we bow to Allah (in Islam)(135)."*

Yusuf Ali (English) It is prescribed, when death approaches any of you, if he leave any goods that he make a bequest to parents and next of kin(186), according to reasonable usage; this is due from the Allah.fearing.*
10 Al-Baqarah Verse 237 (2:237:30) بَيْنَكُمْۜ بينكم beynekum among you ب ي ن
Yusuf Ali (English) And if ye divorce them before consummation, but after the fixation of a dower for them, then the half of the dower (Is due to them), unless they remit it or (the man´s half) is remitted(269) by him in whose hands is the marriage tie;(270) and the remission (of the man´s half) is the nearest to righteousness. And do not forget Liberality between yourselves. For Allah sees well all that ye do.*
11 Al-Baqarah Verse 259 (2:259:53) نُنْشِزُهَا ننشزها nunşizuhâ We raise them ن ش ز
Yusuf Ali (English) Or (take) the similitude of one who passed by a hamlet, all in ruins(304) to its roofs. He said: "Oh! how shall Allah bring it (ever) to life, after (this) its death?" but Allah caused him to die for a hundred years, then raised him up (again). He said: "How long didst thou tarry (thus)?" He said: (Perhaps) a day or part of a day." He said: "Nay, thou hast tarried thus a hundred years; but look at thy food and thy drink; they show no signs of age; and look at thy donkey: And that We may make of thee a sign unto the people, Look further at the bones, how We bring them together and clothe them with flesh(305)." When this was shown clearly to him, he said: "I know that Allah hath power over all things."*
12 Al-Baqarah Verse 266 (2:266:2) اَحَدُكُمْ احدكم ehadukum any of you أ ح د
Yusuf Ali (English) Does any of you wish that he should have a garden(312) with date-palms and vines and streams flowing underneath, and all kinds of fruit, while he is stricken with old age, and his children are not strong (enough(313) to look after themselves)- that it should be caught in a whirlwind, with fire therein, and be burnt up? Thus doth Allah make clear to you (His) Signs; that ye may consider.*

When ye deal with each other, in transactions involving future obligations in a fixed period of time, reduce them to writing(329) Let a scribe write down faithfully as between the parties: let not the scribe refuse to write: as Allah(330) Has taught him, so let him write. Let him who incurs the liability dictate, but let him fear His Lord Allah, and not diminish aught of what he owes. If they party liable is mentally deficient, or weak, or unable Himself to dictate(331), Let his guardian dictate faithfully, and get two witnesses, out of your own men(332), and if there are not two men, then a man and two women, such as ye choose, for witnesses, so that if one of them errs, the other can remind her. The witnesses should not refuse when they are called on (For evidence). Disdain not to reduce to writing (your contract) for a future period, whether it be small or big: it is juster in the sight of Allah, More suitable as evidence, and more convenient to prevent doubts among yourselves but if it be a transaction hich ye carry out on the spot among yourselves, there is no blame on you if ye reduce it not to writing. But take witness whenever ye make a commercial contract; and let neither scribe nor witness suffer harm. If ye do (such harm), it would be wickedness in you. So fear Allah; For it is Allah that teaches you. And Allah is well acquainted with all things(333). If ye are on a journey, and cannot find a scribe, a pledge with possession (may serve the purpose)(334). And if one of you deposits a thing on trust with another(335), let the trustee (faithfully) discharge his trust, and let him Fear his Lord conceal not evidence; for whoever conceals it, - his heart is tainted(336) with sin. Yusuf Ali (English) The Messenger believeth in what hath been revealed to him from his Lord, as do the men of faith. Each one (of them) believeth in Allah, His angels, His books, and His Messengers(337). "We make no distinction (they say) between one and another(338) of His messengers." And they say: "We hear, and we obey: (We seek) Thy forgiveness(339), our Lord, and to Thee is the end of all journeys."*
19 Ali 'Imran Verse 7 (3:7:13) مُتَشَابِهَاتٌۜ متشابهات muteşâbihât(un) (are) allegorical ش ب ه
Yusuf Ali (English) He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book: In it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation(347) of the Book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded(348) in knowledge say: "We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord:" and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding.*

Yusuf Ali (English) Offspring, one of the other(374): And Allah heareth and knoweth all things.*

Yusuf Ali (English) "And (appoint him) a messenger to the Children of Israel, (with this message): "´I have come to you, with a Sign from your Lord, in that I make for you out of clay, as it were, the figure of a bird, and breathe into it, and it becomes a bird by Allah's leave(390): And I heal those born blind, and the lepers, and I quicken the dead, by Allah.s leave; and I declare to you what ye eat, and what ye store(391) in your houses. Surely therein is a Sign for you if ye did believe;*
22 Ali 'Imran Verse 73 (3:73:14) اَحَدٌ احد ehadun (to) one أ ح د
Yusuf Ali (English) "And believe no one unless he follows your religion." Say: "True guidance is the Guidance of Allah. (Fear ye) Lest a revelation(407) be sent to someone (else) Like unto that which was sent unto you? or that those (Receiving such revelation) should engage you in argument before your Lord(408)?" Say: "All bounties are in the hand of Allah. He granteth them to whom He pleaseth: And Allah careth for all, and He knoweth all things."*
23 Ali 'Imran Verse 84 (3:84:25) اَحَدٍ احد ehadin any أ ح د
Yusuf Ali (English) Say: "We believe in Allah, and in what has been revealed to us and what was revealed to Abraham, Isma´il, Isaac, Jacob, and the Tribes, and in (the Books) given to Moses, Jesus, and the prophets, from their Lord: We make no distinction between one and another among them, and to Allah do we bow our will (in Islam)."

Yusuf Ali (English) As to those who reject Faith, and die rejecting,- never would be accepted from any such as much gold as the earth contains, though they should offer it for ransom. For such is (in store) a penalty grievous, and they will find no helpers.

Yusuf Ali (English) And hold fast, all together, by the rope(429) which Allah (stretches out for you), and be not divided among yourselves; and remember with gratitude Allah.s favour on you; for ye were enemies(430) and He joined your hearts in love, so that by His Grace, ye became brethren; and ye were on the brink of the pit of Fire, and He saved you from it. Thus doth Allah make His Signs clear to you: That ye may be guided.*
26 Ali 'Imran Verse 152 (3:152:11) وَتَنَازَعْتُمْ وتنازعتم ve tenâza’tum and you fell into dispute ن ز ع
Yusuf Ali (English) Allah did indeed fulfil His promise to you when ye with His permission Were about to annihilate your enemy,-until ye flinched and fell to disputing about the order,(462) and disobeyed it after He brought you in sight (of the booty) which ye covet. Among you are some that hanker after this world and some that desire the Hereafter. Then did He divert you from your foes in order to test you.(463) But He forgave you: For Allah is full of grace to those who believe.*
27 Ali 'Imran Verse 195 (3:195:16) بَعْضٍۚ بعض ba’d(in) (the) other ب ع ض
Yusuf Ali (English) And their Lord hath accepted of them, and answered them: "Never will I suffer to be lost the work of any of you, be he male or female: Ye are members, one of another:(500) Those who have left their homes, or been driven out therefrom, or suffered harm in My Cause, or fought or been slain,- verily, I will blot out from them their iniquities, and admit them into Gardens with rivers flowing beneath;- A reward from the Presence(501) of Allah, and from His presence is the best of rewards."*
28 An-Nisa Verse 11 (4:11:25) وَاحِدٍ واحد vâhidin one و ح د
Yusuf Ali (English) Allah (thus) directs you as regards your Children´s(516) (Inheritance): to the male, a portion equal to that of two females: if only daughters, two or more,(517) their share is two-thirds of the inheritance; if only one, her share is a half. For parents, a sixth share of the inheritance to each, if the deceased left children; if no children, and the parents are the (only) heirs, the mother has a third; if the deceased Left brothers (or sisters) the mother has a sixth. (The distribution in all cases (´s) after the payment of legacies and debts. Ye know not whether your parents or your children are nearest to you in benefit. These are settled portions ordained(518) by Allah. and Allah is All-knowing, All-wise.*

Yusuf Ali (English) In what your wives leave, your share is a half, if they leave no child; but if they leave a child, ye get a fourth; after payment of legacies and debts. Yusuf Ali (English) But if ye decide to take one wife in place of another, even if ye had given the latter a whole treasure(529) for dower, Take not the least bit of it back: Would ye take it by slander and manifest wrong?*

Yusuf Ali (English) If any of you have not the means wherewith to wed free believing women, they may wed believing girls from among those whom your right hands possess:(540) And Allah hath full knowledge about your faith. Ye are one from another: Wed them with the leave of their owners, and give them their dowers, according to what is reasonable: They should be chaste, not lustful, nor taking paramours: when they are taken in wedlock, if they fall into shame, their punishment is half that for free women. This (permission) is for those among you who fear sin; but it is better for you that ye practise self-restraint. And Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.*
35 An-Nisa Verse 33 (4:33:1) وَلِكُلٍّ ولكل ve li-kullin And for all ك ل ل
Yusuf Ali (English) To (benefit) every one, We have appointed shares and heirs(543) to property left by parents and relatives. To those, also, to whom your right hand was pledged,(544) give their due portion. For truly Allah is witness to all things.*
36 An-Nisa Verse 43 (4:43:29) اَحَدٌ احد ehadun one أ ح د
Yusuf Ali (English) O ye who believe! Approach not prayers with a mind befogged,(562) until ye can understand all that ye say,- nor in a state of ceremonial impurity (Except when travelling on the road), until after washing your whole body. If ye are ill, or on a journey, or one of you cometh from offices of nature, or ye have been in contact with women, and ye find no water,(563) then take for yourselves clean sand or earth, and rub therewith your faces and hands. For Allah doth blot out sins and forgive again and again.*

Yusuf Ali (English) Do they not consider the Qur´an (with care)? Had it been from other Than Allah, they would surely have found therein Much discrepancy.(601)*
38 An-Nisa Verse 88 (4:88:16) وَمَنْ ومن ve men And whoever مَنْ
Yusuf Ali (English) Why should ye be divided into two parties about the Hypocrites?(606) Allah hath upset them for their (evil) deeds. Would ye guide those whom Allah hath thrown out of the Way? For those whom Allah hath thrown out of the Way, never shalt thou find the Way.*
39 An-Nisa Verse 102 (4:102:56) حِذْرَكُمْۜ حذركم hiżrakum your precautions ح ذ ر
Yusuf Ali (English) When thou (O Messenger. art with them, and standest to lead them in prayer, Let one party of them stand up (in prayer) with thee, Taking their arms with them: When they finish their prostrations, let them Take their position in the rear. And let the other party come up which hath not yet prayed - and let them pray with thee, Taking all precaution, and bearing arms: the Unbelievers wish, if ye were negligent of your arms and your baggage, to assault you in a single rush.(618) But there is no blame on you if ye put away your arms because of the inconvenience of rain or because ye are ill; but take (every) precaution for yourselves. For the Unbelievers Allah hath prepared a humiliating punishment.*
40 An-Nisa Verse 129 (4:129:11) كُلَّ كل kulle (with) all ك ل ل
Yusuf Ali (English) Ye are never able to be fair and just as between women, even if it is your ardent desire: But turn not away (from a woman) altogether, so as to leave her (as it were) hanging (in the air).(639) If ye come to a friendly understanding, and practise self- restraint, Allah is Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.*
41 An-Nisa Verse 130 (4:130:5) كُلًّا كلا kullen each (of them) ك ل ل
Yusuf Ali (English) But if they disagree (and must part), Allah will provide abundance for all from His all-reaching bounty: for Allah is He that careth for all and is Wise.

Yusuf Ali (English) Recite to them the truth(730) of the story of the two sons(731) of Adam. Behold! they each presented a sacrifice (to Allah.: It was accepted from one, but not from the other. Said the latter: "Be sure I will slay thee." "Surely," said the former, "(Allah) doth accept of the sacrifice of those who are righteous.*
46 Al-Ma'idah Verse 41 (5:41:42) وَمَنْ ومن ve men And (for) whom مَنْ
Yusuf Ali (English) O Messenger. let not those grieve thee, who race each other into unbelief:(744) (whether it be) among those who say "We believe" with their lips but whose hearts have no faith; or it be among the Jews,- men who will listen to any lie,- will listen even to others who have never so much as come(745) to thee. They change the words from their (right) times(746) and places: they say, "If ye are given this, take it, but if not, beware!" If any one´s trial is intended by Allah, thou hast no authority in the least for him against Allah. For such - it is not Allah.s will to purify their hearts. For them there is disgrace in this world, and in the Hereafter a heavy punishment.*
47 Al-Ma'idah Verse 48 (5:48:25) لِكُلٍّ لكل li-kullin For each ك ل ل
Yusuf Ali (English) To thee We sent the Scripture in truth, confirming the scripture that came before it, and guarding it(759) in safety: so judge between them by what Allah hath revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging from the Truth that hath come to thee. To each among you have we prescribed a law and an open way.(760) If Allah had so willed, He would have made you(761) a single people, but (His plan is) to test you in what He hath given you: so strive as in a race in all virtues. The goal of you all is to Allah. it is He that will show you the truth of the matters in which ye dispute;(762)*
48 Al-Ma'idah Verse 106 (5:106:9) اَحَدَكُمُ احدكم ehadekumu one of you أ ح د
Yusuf Ali (English) O ye who believe! When death approaches any of you, (take) witnesses among yourselves when making bequests,- two just men of your own (brotherhood) or others from outside if ye are journeying through the earth, and the chance of death befalls you (thus). If ye doubt (their truth), detain them both after prayer, and let them both swear by Allah. "We wish not in this for any worldly gain, even though the (beneficiary) be our near relation: we shall hide not the evidence before Allah. if we do, then behold! the sin be upon us!(812)"*
49 Al-An'am Verse 61 (6:61:11) اَحَدَكُمُ احدكم ehadekumu (to) anyone of you أ ح د
Yusuf Ali (English) He is the irresistible, (watching) from above over His worshippers, and He sets guardians(882) over you. At length, when death approaches one of you, Our angels(883) take his soul, and they never fail in their duty.*
50 Al-An'am Verse 65 (6:65:16) يَلْبِسَكُمْ يلبسكم yelbisekum (to) confuse you ل ب س
Yusuf Ali (English) Say: "He hath power to send calamities(888) on you, from above and below, or to cover you with confusion in party strife, giving you a taste of mutual vengeance - each from the other." See how We explain the signs by various (symbols);(889) that they may understand.*
