Yusuf Ali (English) They followed what the evil ones(103) gave out (falsely) against the power of Solomon: the blasphemers Were, not Solomon, but the evil ones, teaching men Magic, and such things as came down at babylon to the angels Harut and Marut(104). But neither of these taught anyone (Such things) without saying: "We are only for trial; so do not blaspheme." They learned from them(105) the means to sow discord between man and wife. But they could not thus harm anyone except by Allah.s permission. And they learned what harmed them, not what profited them. And they knew that the buyers of (magic) would have no share in the happiness of the Hereafter. And vile was the price for which they did sell their souls, if they but knew!*
5 Al-Baqarah Verse 187 (2:187:54) تِلْكَ تلك tilke These ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) Permitted to you, on the night of the fasts, is the approach to your wives. They are your garments and ye are their garments(195). Allah knoweth what ye used to do secretly among yourselves; but He turned to you and forgave you; so now associate with them, and seek what Allah Hath ordained for you(196), and eat and drink, until the white thread of dawn appear to you distinct from its black thread(197); then complete your fast Till the night appears(198); but do not associate with your wives while ye are in retreat(199) in the mosques. Those are(200) Limits (set by) Allah. Approach not nigh thereto. Thus doth Allah make clear His Signs to men: that they may learn self-restraint.*
6 Al-Baqarah Verse 187 (2:187:58) تَقْرَبُوهَاۜ تقربوها takrabûhâ approach them ق ر ب
Yusuf Ali (English) Permitted to you, on the night of the fasts, is the approach to your wives. They are your garments and ye are their garments(195). Allah knoweth what ye used to do secretly among yourselves; but He turned to you and forgave you; so now associate with them, and seek what Allah Hath ordained for you(196), and eat and drink, until the white thread of dawn appear to you distinct from its black thread(197); then complete your fast Till the night appears(198); but do not associate with your wives while ye are in retreat(199) in the mosques. Those are(200) Limits (set by) Allah. Approach not nigh thereto. Thus doth Allah make clear His Signs to men: that they may learn self-restraint.*
7 Al-Baqarah Verse 229 (2:229:35) تِلْكَ تلك tilke These ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) A divorce is only(256) permissible twice: after that, the parties should either hold Together on equitable terms, or separate with kindness.(257) It is not lawful for you, (Men), to take back any of your gifts (from your wives), except when both parties fear that they would be unable to keep the limits ordained by Allah.(258) If ye (judges) do indeed fear that they would be unable to keep the limits ordained by Allah, there is no blame on either of them if she give something for her freedom. These are the limits ordained by Allah. so do not transgress them if any do transgress the limits ordained by Allah, such persons wrong (Themselves as well as others).(259)*
8 Al-Baqarah Verse 229 (2:229:39) تَعْتَدُوهَاۚ تعتدوها ta’tedûhâ transgress them ع د و

9 Al-Baqarah Verse 230 (2:230:25) وَتِلْكَ وتلك ve tilke And these ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) So if a husband divorces his wife (irrevocably)(260), he cannot, after that, remarry her until after she has married another husband and he has divorced her. In that case there is no blame on either of them if they reunite, provided they feel that they can keep the limits ordained by Allah. Such are the limits ordained by Allah, which He makes plain to those who understand.*
10 Al-Baqarah Verse 252 (2:252:1) تِلْكَ تلك tilke These ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) These are the Signs of Allah. we rehearse them to thee in truth: verily Thou art one of the messengers.
11 Ali 'Imran Verse 14 (3:14:17) ذٰلِكَ ذلك żâlike That ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) Fair in the eyes of men is the love of things they covet(354): Women and sons; Heaped-up hoards of gold and silver; horses branded (for blood and excellence); and (wealth of) cattle and well-tilled land. Such are the possessions of this world´s life; but in nearness to Allah is the best of the goals (To return to).*
12 Ali 'Imran Verse 15 (3:15:5) ذٰلِكُمْۜ ذلكم żâlikum that ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) Say: Shall I give you glad tidings of things Far better than those? For the righteous are Gardens in nearness to their Lord, with rivers flowing beneath; therein is their eternal home; with companions pure (and holy)(355); and the good pleasure of Allah. For in Allah.s sight are (all) His servants,-*
13 Ali 'Imran Verse 44 (3:44:1) ذٰلِكَ ذلك żâlike That ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) This is part of the tidings of the things unseen(383), which We reveal unto thee (O Messenger.) by inspiration: Thou wast not with them when they cast lots with arrows(384), as to which of them should be charged with the care of Mary: Nor wast thou with them when they disputed (the point)(385).*
14 Ali 'Imran Verse 186 (3:186:21) ذٰلِكَ ذلك żâlike that ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) Ye shall certainly be tried and tested in your possessions and in your personal selves;(493) and ye shall certainly Hear much that will grieve you, from those who received the Book before you and from those who worship many gods. But if ye persevere patiently, and guard against evil,-then that will be a determining factor in all affairs.*
15 An-Nisa Verse 11 (4:11:64) فَر۪يضَةً فريضة ferîdaten An obligation ف ر ض
Yusuf Ali (English) Allah (thus) directs you as regards your Children´s(516) (Inheritance): to the male, a portion equal to that of two females: if only daughters, two or more,(517) their share is two-thirds of the inheritance; if only one, her share is a half. For parents, a sixth share of the inheritance to each, if the deceased left children; if no children, and the parents are the (only) heirs, the mother has a third; if the deceased Left brothers (or sisters) the mother has a sixth. (The distribution in all cases (´s) after the payment of legacies and debts. Ye know not whether your parents or your children are nearest to you in benefit. These are settled portions ordained(518) by Allah. and Allah is All-knowing, All-wise.*
16 An-Nisa Verse 13 (4:13:1) تِلْكَ تلك tilke These ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) Those are limits set by Allah. those who obey Allah and His Messenger will be admitted to Gardens with rivers flowing beneath, to abide therein (for ever) and that will be the supreme achievement.(522-A)*
17 An-Nisa Verse 24 (4:24:15) ذٰلِكُمْ ذلكم żâlikum that ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) Also (prohibited are) women already married, except those whom your right hands possess:(537) Thus hath Allah ordained (Prohibitions) against you: Except for these, all others are lawful, provided ye seek (them in marriage) with gifts from your property,- desiring chastity, not lust, (538)seeing that ye derive benefit from them, give them their dowers (at least)(539) as prescribed; but if, after a dower is prescribed, agree Mutually (to vary it), there is no blame on you, and Allah is All-knowing, All-wise.*
18 An-Nisa Verse 37 (4:37:1) اَلَّذ۪ينَ الذين elleżîne Those who ٱلَّذِى
Yusuf Ali (English) (Nor) those who are niggardly or enjoin niggardliness on others, or hide the bounties which Allah hath bestowed(555) on them; for We have prepared, for those who resist Faith, a punishment that steeps(556) them in contempt;-*
19 An-Nisa Verse 38 (4:38:1) وَالَّذ۪ينَ والذين velleżîne And those who ٱلَّذِى
Yusuf Ali (English) Not those who spend of their substance, to be seen(557) of men, but have no faith in Allah and the Last Day: If any take the Evil One for their intimate, what a dreadful intimate he is!*
20 An-Nisa Verse 41 (4:41:11) هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ هؤلاء hâulâ-i these (people) هَٰذَا
Yusuf Ali (English) How then if We brought from each people a witness, and We brought thee as a witness against these people!(560)*
21 An-Nisa Verse 51 (4:51:15) هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ هؤلاء hâulâ-i These هَٰذَا
Yusuf Ali (English) Hast thou not turned Thy vision to those who were given a portion(572) of the Book? they believe in sorcery and Evil,(573) and say to the Unbelievers that they are better guided in the (right) way Than the believers!*
22 An-Nisa Verse 92 (4:92:50) يَجِدْ يجد yecid find و ج د
Yusuf Ali (English) Never should a believer kill a believer; but (If it so happens) by mistake,(611) (Compensation is due): If one (so) kills a believer, it is ordained that he should free a believing slave, and pay compensation to the deceased´s family, unless they remit it freely. If the deceased belonged to a people at war with you, and he was a believer, the freeing of a believing slave (Is enough). If he belonged to a people with whom ye have treaty of Mutual alliance, compensation should be paid to his family, and a believing slave be freed. For those who find this beyond their means, (is prescribed) a fast for two months running: by way of repentance to Allah. for Allah hath all knowledge and all wisdom.*
23 An-Nisa Verse 143 (4:143:6) هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ هؤلاء hâulâ-i these هَٰذَا
Yusuf Ali (English) (They are) distracted in mind even in the midst of it,- being (sincerely) for neither one group nor for another whom Allah leaves straying,- never wilt thou find for him the Way.(651)*
24 Al-Ma'idah Verse 3 (5:3:29) ذٰلِكُمْ ذلكم żâlikum that ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) Forbidden to you (for food) are: dead meat, blood, the flesh of swine, and that on which hath been invoked The name of other than Allah;(691) that which hath been killed by strangling, or by a violent blow, or by a headlong fall, or by being gored to death; that which hath been (partly) eaten by a wild animal; unless ye are able to slaughter it (in due form);(692) that which is sacrificed(693) on stone (altars); (forbidden) also is the division(694) (of meat) by raffling with arrows: that is impiety. This day have those who reject faith given up all hope of your religion:(695) yet fear them not but fear Me. This day have I perfected your religion(696) for you, completed My favour upon you, and have chosen for you Islam as your religion. But if any is forced by hunger, with no inclination to transgression, Allah is indeed Oft-forgiving, Most Merciful.*
25 Al-Ma'idah Verse 53 (5:53:4) اَهٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ اهؤلاء e-hâulâ-i Are these هَٰذَا
Yusuf Ali (English) And those who believe will say: "Are these the men who swore their strongest oaths by Allah, that they were with you?(766)" All that they do will be in vain, and they will fall into (nothing but) ruin.*
26 Al-Ma'idah Verse 90 (5:90:14) فَاجْتَنِبُوهُ فاجتنبوه fe-ctenibûhu so avoid it ج ن ب
Yusuf Ali (English) O ye who believe! Intoxicants and gambling,(793) (dedication of) stones,(794) and (divination by) arrows,(795) are an abomination,- of Satan´s handwork: eschew such (abomination), that ye may prosper.*
27 Al-Ma'idah Verse 120 (5:120:6) ف۪يهِنَّۜ فيهن fîhin(ne) (is) in them فِي
Yusuf Ali (English) To Allah doth belong the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all that is therein, and it is He Who hath power over all things.
28 Al-An'am Verse 83 (6:83:1) وَتِلْكَ وتلك ve tilke And this ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) That was the reasoning about Us, which We gave to Abraham (to use) against his people:(902) We raise whom We will, degree after degree: for thy Lord is full of wisdom and knowledge.*
29 Al-An'am Verse 89 (6:89:9) بِهَا بها bihâ (with, in) it, them بِهَٓا
Yusuf Ali (English) These were the men to whom We gave the Book, and authority, and prophethood: if these (their descendants) reject them,(908) Behold! We shall entrust their charge to a new people who reject them not.*
30 Al-An'am Verse 89 (6:89:13) بِهَا بها bihâ (with, in) it, them بِهَٓا

32 Al-An'am Verse 138 (6:138:2) هٰذِه۪ٓ هذه hâżihi These هَٰذَا
Yusuf Ali (English) And they say that such and such cattle and crops(960) are taboo, and none should eat of them except those whom - so they say - We wish; further, there are cattle forbidden to yoke(961) or burden, and cattle on which, (at slaughter), the name of Allah is not(962) pronounced; - inventions against Allah.s name: soon will He requite them for their inventions.*
33 Al-An'am Verse 151 (6:151:40) بِه۪ به bihi in, with, about (it, Him, of) بِه۪
Yusuf Ali (English) Say: "Come, I will rehearse what Allah hath (really)(976) prohibited you from": Join not anything as equal with Him; be good to your parents; kill not your children on a plea of want;- We provide sustenance for you and for them;- come not nigh to shameful deeds. Whether open or secret; take not life, which Allah hath made sacred, except by way of justice and law:(977) thus doth He command you, that ye may learn wisdom.*
34 Al-An'am Verse 152 (6:152:33) بِه۪ به bihi in, with, about (it, Him, of) بِه۪
Yusuf Ali (English) And come not nigh to the orphan´s property, except to improve it, until he attain the age of full strength; give measure and weight with (full) justice;- no burden do We place on any soul, but that which it can bear;- whenever ye speak, speak justly, even if a near relative is concerned; and fulfil the covenant of Allah;(978) thus doth He command you, that ye may remember.*
35 Al-A'raf Verse 38 (7:38:28) هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ هؤلاء hâulâ-i these هَٰذَا
Yusuf Ali (English) He will say: "Enter ye in the company of the peoples who passed away before you - men and jinns, - into the Fire." Every time a new people enters, it curses its sister-people (that went before), until they follow each other, all into the Fire. Saith the last about the first: "Our Lord! it is these that misled us: so give them a double penalty in the Fire." He will say: "Doubled(1019) for all" : but this ye do not understand.*
36 Al-A'raf Verse 38 (7:38:30) فَاٰتِهِمْ فاتهم fe-âtihim so give them أ ت ي

38 Al-A'raf Verse 138 (7:138:19) لَهُمْ لهم lehum (to,for) them لَهُم
Yusuf Ali (English) We took the Children of Israel (with safety) across the sea. They came upon a people devoted entirely to some idols(1097) they had. They said: "O Moses! fashion for us a god like unto the gods they have." He said: "Surely ye are a people without knowledge.*
39 Al-A'raf Verse 145 (7:145:12) فَخُذْهَا فخذها fe-ḣużhâ So take them أ خ ذ
Yusuf Ali (English) And We ordained laws for him in the tablets in all matters, both commanding and explaining all things, (and said): "Take and hold these with firmness, and enjoin thy people to hold fast by the best in the precepts:(1107) soon shall I show you(1108) the homes of the wicked,-(1109) (How they lie desolate)."*
40 Al-A'raf Verse 145 (7:145:17) بِاَحْسَنِهَاۜ باحسنها bi-ahsenihâ (the) best of it ح س ن
Yusuf Ali (English) And We ordained laws for him in the tablets in all matters, both commanding and explaining all things, (and said): "Take and hold these with firmness, and enjoin thy people to hold fast by the best in the precepts:(1107) soon shall I show you(1108) the homes of the wicked,-(1109) (How they lie desolate)."*
41 Al-A'raf Verse 155 (7:155:0) اَهْلَكْتَهُمْ اهلكتهم ehlektehum You (could) have destroyed them ه ل ك
Yusuf Ali (English) And Moses chose seventy(1121) of his people for Our place of meeting: when they were seized with violent quaking,(1122) he prayed: "O my Lord! if it had been Thy will Thou couldst have destroyed, long before, both them and me: wouldst Thou destroy us for the deeds of the foolish ones among us? This is no more than(1123) Thy trial: by it Thou causest whom Thou wilt to stray,(1124) and Thou leadest whom Thou wilt into the right path. Thou art our Protector: so forgive us and give us Thy mercy; for Thou art the best of those who forgive.*
42 Al-Anfal Verse 49 (8:49:0) هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ هؤلاء hâulâ-i these (people) هَٰذَا
Yusuf Ali (English) Lo! the hypocrites say, and those in whose hearts is a disease:(1218) "These people,- their religion has misled them." But if any trust in Allah, behold! Allah is Exalted in might, Wise.*
43 At-Tawbah Verse 35 (9:35:0) بِهَا بها bihâ (with, in) it, them بِهَٓا
Yusuf Ali (English) On the Day when heat(1293) will be produced out of that (wealth) in the fire of Hell, and with it will be branded their foreheads, their flanks, and their backs, their flanks, and their backs.- "This is the (treasure) which ye buried for yourselves:(1294) taste ye, then, the (treasures) ye buried!"*
44 At-Tawbah Verse 36 (9:36:0) مِنْهَٓا منها minhâ of them مِنْ
Yusuf Ali (English) The number of months(1295) in the sight of Allah is twelve (in a year)- so ordained by Him the day He created the heavens and the earth; of them four are sacred: that is the straight usage. So wrong not yourselves(1296) therein, and fight the Pagans all together as they fight you all together. But know that Allah is with those who restrain themselves.*
45 At-Tawbah Verse 55 (9:55:0) بِهَا بها bihâ (with, in) it, them بِهَٓا
Yusuf Ali (English) Let not their wealth nor their (following in) sons(1315) dazzle thee: in reality Allah.s plan is to punish them with these things in this life,(1316) and that their souls may perish in their (very) denial of Allah.*
46 At-Tawbah Verse 85 (9:85:0) بِهَا بها bihâ (with, in) it, them بِهَٓا
Yusuf Ali (English) Nor let their wealth nor their (following in) sons dazzle thee: Allah.s plan is to punish them with these things in this world, and that their souls may perish in their (very) denial of Allah.(1338)*
47 Yunus Verse 1 (10:1:0) تِلْكَ تلك tilke These ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) A.L.R.(1381) These are the Ayat(1382) of the Book of Wisdom.*
48 Yunus Verse 5 (10:5:0) ذٰلِكَ ذلك żâlike that ذَٰلِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) It is He Who made the sun to be a shining glory(1391) and the moon to be a light (of beauty), and measured out stages for her; that ye might know the number of years and the count (of time). Nowise did Allah create this but in truth and righteousness.(1392) (Thus) doth He explain His Signs in detail, for those who understand.(1393)*
49 Yunus Verse 8 (10:8:0) اُو۬لٰٓئِكَ اولئك ulâike Those أُولَٰئِكَ
Yusuf Ali (English) Their abode is the Fire, because of the (evil) they earned.
50 Yunus Verse 18 (10:18:0) هٰٓؤُ۬لَٓاءِ هؤلاء hâulâ-i These هَٰذَا
Yusuf Ali (English) They serve, besides Allah, things that hurt them not nor profit them, and they say: "These are our intercessors with Allah." Say: "Do ye indeed inform Allah of something He knows not, in the heavens(1405) or on earth?- Glory to Him! and far is He above the partners they ascribe (to Him)!"*
