They were covered with humiliation(75) and misery; they drew on themselves the wrath of Allah. This because they went on rejecting the Signs of Allah and slaying His Messengers without just cause. This because they rebelled and went on transgressing.*

Yusuf Ali (English) And remember ye said: "O Moses! we cannot endure one kind of food (always); so beseech thy Lord for us to produce for us of what the earth groweth, -its potherbs, and cucumbers, Its garlic, lentils, and onions." Yusuf Ali (English) And well ye knew those amongst you who transgressed in the matter of the Sabbath: We said to them: "Be ye apes, despised and rejected(79)."*

Yusuf Ali (English) Thenceforth were your hearts hardened: They became like a rock and even worse in hardness. For among rocks there are some from which rivers gush forth; others there are which when split asunder send forth water; and others which sink for fear of Allah. And Allah is not unmindful of what ye do(82).*

Yusuf Ali (English) Those of you who die and leave widows should bequeath for their widows a year´s maintenance and residence;(273) but if they leave (The residence), there is no blame on you for what they do with themselves, provided it is reasonable. And Allah is Exalted in Power, Wise.*

Yusuf Ali (English) For divorced women (a one time provision should be paid) on a reasonable (scale). This is a duty on the righteous.

Yusuf Ali (English) The parable of those who spend their substance in the way of Allah is that of a grain of corn: it groweth seven ears, and each ear Hath a hundred grains. Allah giveth manifold increase to whom He pleaseth: And Allah careth for all and He knoweth all things.
13 Al-Baqarah Verse 264 (2:264:26) وَابِلٌ وابل vâbilun heavy rain و ب ل
Yusuf Ali (English) O ye who believe! cancel not your charity by reminders of your generosity or by injury,- like those who spend their substance to be seen of men, but believe neither in Allah nor in the Last Day(310). They are in parable like a hard, barren rock, on which is a little soil: on it falls heavy rain, which leaves it (Just) a bare stone. They will be able to do nothing with aught they have earned. And Allah guideth not those who reject faith.*
14 Al-Baqarah Verse 282 (2:282:92) وَاَقْوَمُ واقوم ve akvemu and more upright ق و م
Yusuf Ali (English) O ye who believe! When ye deal with each other, in transactions involving future obligations in a fixed period of time, reduce them to writing(329) Let a scribe write down faithfully as between the parties: let not the scribe refuse to write: as Allah(330) Has taught him, so let him write. Let him who incurs the liability dictate, but let him fear His Lord Allah, and not diminish aught of what he owes. If they party liable is mentally deficient, or weak, or unable Himself to dictate(331), Let his guardian dictate faithfully, and get two witnesses, out of your own men(332), and if there are not two men, then a man and two women, such as ye choose, for witnesses, so that if one of them errs, the other can remind her. The witnesses should not refuse when they are called on (For evidence). Disdain not to reduce to writing (your contract) for a future period, whether it be small or big: it is juster in the sight of Allah, More suitable as evidence, and more convenient to prevent doubts among yourselves but if it be a transaction hich ye carry out on the spot among yourselves, there is no blame on you if ye reduce it not to writing. But take witness whenever ye make a commercial contract; and let neither scribe nor witness suffer harm. If ye do (such harm), it would be wickedness in you. So fear Allah; For it is Allah that teaches you. And Allah is well acquainted with all things(333). If ye are on a journey, and cannot find a scribe, a pledge with possession (may serve the purpose)(334). And if one of you deposits a thing on trust with another(335), let the trustee (faithfully) discharge his trust, and let him Fear his Lord conceal not evidence; for whoever conceals it, - his heart is tainted(336) with sin. And Allah knoweth all that ye do.*
15 Ali 'Imran Verse 7 (3:7:46) الْاَلْبَابِ الالباب l-elbâb(i) (of) understanding ل ب ب
Yusuf Ali (English) He it is Who has sent down to thee the Book: In it are verses basic or fundamental (of established meaning); they are the foundation(347) of the Book: others are allegorical. But those in whose hearts is perversity follow the part thereof that is allegorical, seeking discord, and searching for its hidden meanings, but no one knows its hidden meanings except Allah. And those who are firmly grounded(348) in knowledge say: "We believe in the Book; the whole of it is from our Lord:" and none will grasp the Message except men of understanding.*
16 Ali 'Imran Verse 10 (3:10:5) تُغْنِيَ تغني tuġniye will avail غ ن ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Those who reject Faith,- neither their possessions nor their (numerous) progeny will avail them aught against Allah. They are themselves but fuel for the Fire.

Yusuf Ali (English) If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans,(508) Marry women of your choice, Two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice.(509)*

Yusuf Ali (English) And how could ye take it when ye have gone in unto each other, and they have Taken from you a solemn covenant?
23 An-Nisa Verse 46 (4:46:30) وَاَقْوَمَۙ واقوم ve akveme and more suitable ق و م
Yusuf Ali (English) Of the Jews there are those who displace words from their (right) places, and say: "We hear and we disobey";(565) and "Hear what is not Heard"; and "Ra´ina";(566) with a twist of their tongues and a slander to Faith. If only they had said: "We hear and we obey"; and "Do hear"; and "Do look at us"; it would have been better for them, and more proper; but Allah hath cursed them for their Unbelief; and but few of them will believe.*
24 An-Nisa Verse 66 (4:66:26) وَاَشَدَّ واشد ve eşedde and stronger ش د د
Yusuf Ali (English) If We had ordered them to sacrifice their lives or to leave their homes, very few of them would have done it:(584) But if they had done what they were (actually) told, it would have been best for them, and would have gone farthest to strengthen their (faith);*

Yusuf Ali (English) If We had ordered them to sacrifice their lives or to leave their homes, very few of them would have done it:(584) But if they had done what they were (actually) told, it would have been best for them, and would have gone farthest to strengthen their (faith);*

Yusuf Ali (English) "Wherever ye are, death will find you out, even if ye are in towers built up strong and high!" If some good befalls them, they say, "This is from Allah.; but if evil, they say, "This is from thee" (O Prophet).(597) Say: "All things are from Allah." But what hath come to these people, that they fail to understand a single fact?*
27 An-Nisa Verse 88 (4:88:7) اَرْكَسَهُمْ اركسهم erkesehum cast them back ر ك س
Yusuf Ali (English) Why should ye be divided into two parties about the Hypocrites?(606) Allah hath upset them for their (evil) deeds. Would ye guide those whom Allah hath thrown out of the Way? For those whom Allah hath thrown out of the Way, never shalt thou find the Way.*
28 An-Nisa Verse 91 (4:91:12) اُرْكِسُوا اركسوا urkisû they are plunged ر ك س
Yusuf Ali (English) Others you will find that wish to gain your confidence as well as that of their people: Every time they are sent back(610) to temptation, they succumb thereto: if they withdraw not from you nor give you (guarantees) of peace besides restraining their hands, seize them and slay them wherever ye get them: In their case We have provided you with a clear argument against them.*
29 An-Nisa Verse 141 (4:141:20) نَسْتَحْوِذْ نستحوذ nestahviż we have advantage ح و ذ
Yusuf Ali (English) (These are) the ones who wait and watch about you: if ye do gain a victory from Allah, they say: "Were we not with you?"- but if the unbelievers gain a success, they say (to them): "Did we not gain an advantage over you, and did we not guard you from the believers?" but Allah will judge betwixt you on the Day of Judgment. And never will Allah grant to the unbelievers a way (to triumphs) over the Believers.(650)*
30 An-Nisa Verse 145 (4:145:5) الْاَسْفَلِ الاسفل l-esfeli the lowest س ف ل
Yusuf Ali (English) The Hypocrites will be in the lowest depths of the Fire: no helper wilt thou find for them;-
31 An-Nisa Verse 154 (4:154:19) غَل۪يظًا غليظا ġalîzâ(n) solemn غ ل ظ
Yusuf Ali (English) And for their covenant we raised over them (the towering height) of Mount (Sinai);(658) and (on another occasion) we said: "Enter the gate with humility"; and (once again) we commanded them: "Transgress not in the matter of the sabbath." And we took from them a solemn covenant.*

Yusuf Ali (English) Allah will say: "This is a day on which the truthful will profit from their truth: theirs are gardens, with rivers flowing beneath,- their eternal Home: Allah well-pleased with them, and they with Allah. That is the great salvation,(833) (the fulfilment of all desires).*

Yusuf Ali (English) Those who reject our sings are deaf and dumb-(860) in the midst of darkness profound: whom Allah willeth, He leaveth to wander: whom He willeth, He placeth on the way that is straight.*
37 Al-An'am Verse 124 (6:124:22) صَغَارٌ صغار saġârun a humiliation ص غ ر
Yusuf Ali (English) When there comes to them a sign (from Allah., They say: "We shall not believe until we receive one (exactly) like those received by Allah's messengers."(946) Allah knoweth best where (and how) to carry out His mission. Soon will the wicked be overtaken by humiliation before Allah, and a severe punishment, for all their plots.*
38 Al-An'am Verse 158 (6:158:21) يَنْفَعُ ينفع yenfe’u will benefit ن ف ع
Yusuf Ali (English) Are they waiting to see if the angels come to them, or thy Lord (Himself), or certain of the signs of thy Lord! the day that certain of the signs of thy Lord do come, no good will it do to a soul(983) to believe in them then if it believed not before nor earned righteousness through its faith. Say: "Wait ye: we too are waiting."(984)*
39 Al-A'raf Verse 13 (7:13:13) الصَّاغِر۪ينَ الصاغرين ssâġirîn(e) the disgraced ones ص غ ر
Yusuf Ali (English) ((Allah)) said: "Get thee down from this:(999) it is not for thee to be arrogant here: get out, for thou art of the meanest (of creatures)."*

Yusuf Ali (English) "Then will I assault them from before them and behind them, from their right and their left: Nor wilt thou find, in most of them, gratitude (for thy mercies)."(1002)*

Yusuf Ali (English) So by deceit he brought about their fall: when they tasted of the tree, their shame became manifest to them, and they began to sew together the leaves of the garden over their bodies. And their Lord called unto them: "Did I not forbid you that tree, and tell you that Satan was an avowed enemy unto you?"
42 Al-A'raf Verse 48 (7:48:9) اَغْنٰى اغنى aġnâ (has) availed غ ن ي
Yusuf Ali (English) The men on the heights will call to certain men whom they will know from their marks, saying:(1027) "Of what profit to you were your hoards and your arrogant ways?*

Yusuf Ali (English) Said the chiefs of Pharaoh´s people: "Wilt thou leave Moses and his people, to spread mischief in the land, and to abandon thee and thy gods?" He said: "Their male children will we slay; (only) their females will we save alive; and we have over them (power) irresistible."(1084)*

Yusuf Ali (English) Remember ye were on the hither side of the valley, and they on the farther side, and the caravan(1212) on lower ground than ye. Even if ye had made a mutual appointment to meet, ye would certainly have failed in the appointment:(1213) But (thus ye met), that Allah might accomplish a matter already enacted; that those who died might die after a clear Sign (had been given), and those who lived might live after a Clear Sign (had been given). And verily Allah is He Who heareth and knoweth (all things).*
50 At-Tawbah Verse 25 (9:25:0) تُغْنِ تغن tuġni availed غ ن ي
Yusuf Ali (English) Assuredly Allah did help you in many battle-fields and on the day of Hunayn:(1274) Behold! your great numbers elated you, but they availed you naught: the land, for all that it is wide, did constrain you, and ye turned back in retreat.(1275)*
