| Yusuf Ali (English) | It is not righteousness that ye turn your faces Towards east or West; but it is righteousness(177)- to believe in Allah(178) and the Last Day, and the Angels, and the Book, and the Messengers; to spend of your substance(179), out of love for Him, for your kin, for orphans, for the needy, for the wayfarer, for those who ask, and for the ransom of slaves; to be steadfast in prayer(180), and practice regular charity; to fulfil the contracts which ye have made; and to be firm and patient(181), in pain (or suffering) and adversity, and throughout all periods of panic. Such are the people of truth, the Allah.fearing.* | |||||

| Yusuf Ali (English) | But those who reject Faith after they accepted it, and then go on adding to their defiance of Faith,- never will their repentance be accepted; for they are those who have (of set purpose) gone astray. | |||||

| Yusuf Ali (English) | Except those who join a group between whom and you there is a treaty(608) (Of peace), or those who approach(609) you with hearts restraining them from fighting you as well as fighting their own people. If Allah had pleased, He could have given them power over you, and they would have fought you: Therefore if they withdraw from you but fight you not, and (instead) send you (Guarantees of) peace, then Allah Hath opened no way for you (to war against them).* | |||||

| Yusuf Ali (English) | Others you will find that wish to gain your confidence as well as that of their people: Every time they are sent back(610) to temptation, they succumb thereto: if they withdraw not from you nor give you (guarantees) of peace besides restraining their hands, seize them and slay them wherever ye get them: In their case We have provided you with a clear argument against them.* | |||||

| Yusuf Ali (English) | Those who believe, and suffer exile and strive with might and main, in Allah's cause,(1270) with their goods and their persons, have the highest rank in the sight of Allah. they are the people who will achieve (salvation).* | |||||

| Yusuf Ali (English) | As in the case of those before you: they were mightier than you in power, and more flourishing in wealth and children. They had their enjoyment of their portion: and ye have of yours, as did those before you; and ye indulge in idle talk as they did. They!- their work are fruitless in this world and in the Hereafter, and they will lose (all spiritual good). | |||||

| Yusuf Ali (English) | But the Messenger, and those who believe with him, strive and fight with their wealth and their persons: for them are (all) good things(1340): and it is they who will prosper.* | |||||

| Yusuf Ali (English) | Allah hath purchased of the believers their persons and their goods; for theirs (in return) is the garden (of Paradise):(1361) they fight in His cause, and slay and are slain: a promise binding on Him in truth, through the Law, the Gospel, and the Qur´an:(1362) and who is more faithful to his covenant than Allah. then rejoice in the bargain which ye have concluded: that is the achievement supreme.* | |||||

| Yusuf Ali (English) | Thus have We revealed it to be a judgment of authority(1859) in Arabic. Wert thou to follow their (vain) desires after the knowledge which hath reached thee, then wouldst thou find neither protector nor defender(1860) against Allah.* | |||||

| Yusuf Ali (English) | The sacrificial camels we have made for you as among the symbols from Allah. in them is (much) good for you: then pronounce the name of Allah over them as they line up (for sacrifice):(2813) when they are down on their sides (after slaughter), eat ye thereof, and feed such as (beg not but) live in contentment,(2814) and such as beg with due humility: thus have We made animals subject to you, that ye may be grateful.* | |||||
| 25 | An-Nur Verse 4 (24:4:17) | وَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ | واولئك | ve ulâike | And those | أُولَٰئِكَ |
| Yusuf Ali (English) | And those who launch a charge against chaste women, and produce not four witnesses (to support their allegations),- flog them with eighty stripes; and reject their evidence(2958) ever after: for such men are wicked transgressors;-* | |||||

| Yusuf Ali (English) | And those who had envied his position the day before began to say on the morrow: "Ah! it is indeed Allah Who enlarges the provision(3412) or restricts it, to any of His servants He pleases! had it not been that Allah was gracious to us, He could have caused the earth to swallow us up! Ah! those who reject Allah will assuredly never prosper."* | |||||
| 29 | Al-'Ankabut Verse 23 (29:23:10) | وَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ | واولئك | ve ulâike | And those | أُولَٰئِكَ |
| Yusuf Ali (English) | Those who reject the Signs of Allah and the Meeting with Him (in the Hereafter),- it is they who shall despair of My Mercy: it is they(3443) who will (suffer) a most grievous Penalty.* | |||||
| 30 | Al-'Ankabut Verse 47 (29:47:1) | وَكَذٰلِكَ | وكذلك | ve keżâlike | And thus | ذَٰلِكَ |
| Yusuf Ali (English) | And thus(3475) (it is) that We have sent down the Book to thee. So the People of the Book believe therein,(3476) as also do some of these(3477) (pagan Arabs): and none but Unbelievers reject our signs.* | |||||
| 31 | Ar-Rum Verse 38 (30:38:14) | وَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ | واولئك | ve ulâike | And those | أُولَٰئِكَ |
| Yusuf Ali (English) | So give what is due to kindred, the needy, and the wayfarer. That is best for those who seek the Countenance,(3550) of Allah, and it is they who will prosper.(3551)* | |||||
| 32 | Luqman Verse 5 (31:5:6) | وَاُو۬لٰٓئِكَ | واولئك | ve ulâike | and those | أُولَٰئِكَ |
| Yusuf Ali (English) | These are on (true) guidance(3583) from their Lord: and these are the ones who will prosper.* | |||||
| 33 | As-Saffat Verse 98 (37:98:1) | فَاَرَادُوا | فارادوا | fe-erâdû | And they intended | ر و د |

| Yusuf Ali (English) | Those who listen to the Word, and follow the best (meaning) in it:(4269) those are the ones whom Allah has guided, and those are the ones endued with understanding.* | |||||

| Yusuf Ali (English) | "And preserve them from (all) ills; and any whom Thou dost preserve from ills(4368) that Day,- on them wilt Thou have bestowed Mercy indeed: and that will be truly (for them) the highest Achievement".(4369)* | |||||
| 36 | Fussilat Verse 23 (41:23:1) | وَذٰلِكُمْ | وذلكم | ve żâlikum | And that | ذَٰلِكَ |
| Yusuf Ali (English) | "But this thought of yours(4490) which ye did entertain concerning your Lord, hath brought you to destruction, and (now) have ye become of those utterly lost!"* | |||||
| 37 | Az-Zukhruf Verse 23 (43:23:1) | وَكَذٰلِكَ | وكذلك | ve keżâlike | And thus | ذَٰلِكَ |
| Yusuf Ali (English) | Just in the same way, whenever We sent a Warner before thee to any people, the wealthy ones among them(4628) said: "We found our fathers following a certain religion, and we will certainly follow in their footsteps."* | |||||
| 38 | Al-Mumtahanah Verse 2 (60:2:11) | وَوَدُّوا | وودوا | ve veddû | and they desire | و د د |
| Yusuf Ali (English) | If they were to get(5411) the better of you, they would behave to you as enemies, and stretch forth their hands and their tongues against you for evil: and they desire that ye should reject the Truth.* | |||||
