ذلك بانه كانت تأتيهم رسلهم بالبينات فقالوا ابشر يهدوننا فكفروا وتولوا واستغنى الله والله غني حميد

Żâlike bi-ennehu kânet te/tîhim rusuluhum bilbeyyinâti fekâlû ebeşerun yehdûnenâ fekeferû ve tevellev(c) vestaġna(A)llâh(u)(c) va(A)llâhu ġaniyyun hamîd(un)

That was because their messengers (from Allah) kept coming unto them with clear proofs (of Allah's sovereignty), but they said: Shall mere mortals guide us? So they disbelieved and turned away, and Allah was independent (of them). Allah is Absolute, Owner of Praise.
Yusuf Ali (English)
That was because there came to them messengers with Clear Signs, but they said: "Shall (mere) human beings(5485) direct us?" So they rejected (the Message) and turned away. But Allah can do without (them): and Allah is(5486) free of all needs, worthy of all praise.*
